It's been 7 going on 8 days since Kai left Adeline's house. He hasn't said a word to anyone. Reggie and John gave him some space with Reggie letting him take off for a few. When Kai initially got back in the car after the fallout , Reggie saw the ashen look on his face and just knew they had broken up and Kai didn't need him to say anything at the moment. Kai didn't say anything even a couple days after the incident he just stayed at his home and watched TV with his pets.

He had a beer in his hands whenever he could and he would sit in front of the TV. Every now and then flipping to celebrity TV only to see a commercial for the movie she was going to be in and turn it off. Jane would bump him with her nose knowing that he was upset and Poe was actually being sweet to him he appreciated his critters looking out for him but yet he had no motivation to be up beat at the moment. He just cooked, cleaned and took Jane for walks for the week.

If he thought too hard he didn't know what he would do. He was admittedly devastated. But this was how Kai coped. He shut down and shut people out. And of everything Adeline could've said to him, saying he wasn't enough just sent him spiraling back to 16 when he wasn't enough to make his mother stay. And now the one woman he actually fell for said the same thing.

Maybe it was him.

Maybe there was something engrained in him that was just so hard to love. To fight for. Maybe he was too eager to love and be loved that it scared people away. He thought he toned that part of himself down. He didn't think that he showed it that much but maybe Adeline saw it too. What made him think otherwise? Maybe it was just his ego because he had never fallen in love and one woman managed to rip out his heart that was already reluctant to be shared. He was so angry with her. Remembering that face of carelessness she used to have... the same the one he saw again last week.

In the same breath of anger and almost hatred he felt for Adeline, he also felt so sad for her. He hated himself for even caring and worrying about her well being. If he could clear the fog of hurt in his head he could see she was being both physically and mentally broken down.

She didn't look or sound like herself at all. She looked so disconnected with him, with her environment. Even in her rude days she had never looked so blank before. And it he hated himself for still wanting to shake that out of her. To help her. But she chose what she wanted. And it wasn't him.

Kai had received a confirmation for the hotel he booked and he decided he should cancel it or give to John as a gift. He was disappointed because he was trying. He was trying so hard to show her his commitment in ways he could. But like she said, it wasn't enough for her.

Jane started whining and Kai realized he had stopped walking in thought while he waited for her to use the bathroom. "I'm sorry Janey." He sighed before going further on their walk. At least he still had Jane and Poe, because without them he would definitely be extremely miserable. Their walk back to the house was uneventful, Jane was a good girl she rarely strayed, the only reason he leashed her was because it was dark and not as safe out.

When his home was in sight he noticed a familiar car in the drive way. Kai sighed and walked to the house where Otsi was was waiting. Kai knew hiding from her would only last so long, he thought he would at least get 2 weeks.

He took a deep breath and head inside. She left the door unlocked assuming he and Jane would be back soon. She was correct in her assumption.

Kai let Jane off leash as she rushed inside to see her third favorite person. Maybe with time she would be her second again.

"Hey Janey! And hi Kai." Otsi looked up at him. She had knowing eyes even with his nonchalant attitude. He couldn't keep how he felt away from his aunt. "Hey what are you doing here?" He gave her a kiss on the forehead. "I didn't know it was illegal for me to come see my nephew." Otis cheekily responded.
