Chapter 39: Research Tasks

　　The following day, morning.

　　Orion received a call from Old Tang and went to the lab building. Once he entered the office, he found that not only was Old Tang there, but Professor Roger, who taught them physics, was also here. Orion politely greeted Professor Roger and then sat down on the sofa next to him.

　　"Professor Tang, what is it that you're looking for me all of a sudden?"

　　"It's not me looking for you," Professor Tang said with a smile, "It's our Professor Roger from the College of Physics, who has recently encountered a bottleneck in his research project, and needs the help of an expert who studies generalised function analysis. Originally, I was going to do it myself, but unfortunately, I'm too busy with my own project. 　　Upon hearing this from Old Tang, Professor Roger immediately smiled and said, "Haha, as you said, I certainly welcome such a great talent from the Mathematics Institute."

　　Let's be honest, Orion, are you going to this project? If not, I'll find someone else." Tang asked.

　　"'Yes, of course!" Orion agreed, "Can I ask, what kind of project is it?"

　　There are not many opportunities for undergraduates to get involved in research projects, especially for the College of Mathematics where research funding is already tight. However, due to the special nature of mathematics as a " tool subject ", there are many opportunities for students from the Department of Mathematics to participate in the projects of other institutions.

　　The most attractive projects are those in the College of Physics.

　　After all, everyone at Gordon University knows that the College of Physics has the largest number of research projects among all the faculties, and the largest amount of funding. From nuclear physics research to semiconductor materials, there are national scientific research projects, there are also school and enterprise co-operation research and development projects, no matter which, the outcome is outstanding!

　　It was for this reason that when he heard that Old Tang wanted Orion to participate in Professor Roger's project, the two postgraduates sitting in the office busy with the project were twisted with envy in their hearts.

　　Everyone knows that Professor Roger is from the 'Institute of Carbon Nanomaterials'. That place can be said to be the most well-funded research units in Gordon University!

　　Professor Roger smiled on his face, "Research on carbon nanotube-modified cementitious composites! This project is supported by the National Engineering and Materials Science Department Fund, and participating in this kind of project will be quite helpful to both your personal CV and future development."

　　Carbon nanotube modified cementitious composites?

　　That sounds like it's pretty impressive.

　　Orion: "Professor, I haven't studied much in materials science, can you tell me exactly what I have to do?"

　　"Right now." As soon as Roger stood up from the sofa, he looked at Old Tang and laughed, "I won't bother you then."

　　Gordon University's Carbon Nanomaterials Research Institute, located in the northeastern corner of the campus, was right next to a wooded path leading to the astronomical observatory in the back of the mountain.

　　At least Orion hadn't.

　　He had never been here once since he entered this campus.

　　While walking towards the main entrance of the Institute, Professor Roger spoke to Orion about something physical.

　　The interior of the institute was actually not much different from the structure of a teaching building, the only difference was that there were no classrooms here, only sections with various signs and laboratories with different instruments.

　　Compared to the cutting-edge experimental instruments here, the ones Orion had seen in the experiments on physics, such as those measuring circuits and the laws of motion of plasmas, were more like children's toys.

　　After Professor Roger brought Orion here, he found a tall and thin graduate student wearing a white lab coat.

　　"Bob, you take him to familiarize with the environment here. I have some things to do in a while, so you guys just make the data and email it to me."

　　Pushing up his glasses, Bob smiled and held out his right hand, "You can just call me Bob!"

　　"Orion," Orion smiled as he took the hand and shook it, "Hello Bob!"

　　"Haha, I've heard of you," Bob laughed and politely made a gesture of invitation, "This way please."

　　While walking down the corridor, Bob introduced the situation here.

　　As the name suggests, the main research topic of this research institute was naturally carbon nanomaterials. The research on carbon nanomaterials also included research on carbon nanotubes, fullerenes, graphene materials and other sub-projects.

　　According to Bob, the latest generation of Leclerc tank's optoelectronic sighting equipment includes research results from here, which mainly focuses on the interference and component damage caused by electromagnetic pulse. As for more specific to what project, that involves confidential content, he does not know much.
