Time passes by, and soon it is April.
With the arrival of spring break, students who have been squeezed by heavy academic work for a semester finally have a short liberation. During this less than two-week holiday, they could enjoy life without having to think about academic matters.
Even the busy Princeton campus was tinted with many relaxing colours.
"I'm planning to go to Fort Lauderdale, if you're free, you can come with me." Wynston, who was sitting together in the dining area on the ground floor of Princeton's Institute for Advanced Study , made the invitation to Orion.
The ocean and the beach are usually the top choices for spring break activities, and Fort Lauderdale is relatively affordable compared to Hawaii. Since 1934, it has been the mecca of spring break for American universities. It's so packed at this time of year that it's since become home to not only American college students, but also overseas tourists who come to visit.
But it was an unfamiliar name to Orion.
Orion hesitated for a moment and asked, "Where is Fort Lauderdale?"
"In Florida, the Venice of North America ...... You don't even know where Fort Lauderdale is? How did you get through this year?" Wynston looked at Orion incredulously.
Orion made a helpless face.
"Spring break is a great opportunity for a fling, or are you planning on being single for the rest of your life? If you don't know how to chase pretty girls I can teach you the art of picking them up, it's actually pretty easy."
......
Orion was actually a little curious about what Wynston had said.
Was Fort Lauderdale on spring break really as youthful and pungent with alcohol as it was made out to be in the movies?
If nothing else, he wouldn't mind going with Wynston to find out.
However, only if it wasn't too busy ......
On the first Saturday of April, Orion gave his students a week-long mini-break as well. After more than three months of intense study, they needed a break to get in shape.
But for Orion himself, there was no such leisure.
On the very first day of spring break, he boarded a plane and travelled to San Francisco on the West Coast to attend a symposium on organic chemistry held by the American Chemical Society.
There, he would take away the glory that belonged to him, as well as leave behind a speech of roughly 60 minutes or so.
The scale of this meeting was not as large as the MRS meeting in materials science, but the influence was not inferior at all, and it also belonged to one of the top meetings in the field of organic synthesis.
After all, the influence of the American Chemical Society is really too big compared to the Materials Society. The former is more than a century older than the latter, and has a non-negligible influence on industry and even politics.
After several hours of flying, the plane landed at the airport in San Francisco.
At the airport he was met by Sarote, a once downtrodden Cornell professor who now looked radiant in spirit.
An ironed and straight suit, combed retro oil hair, face also shaved much cleaner, the essence of the spirit much better than a few months ago.
It has to be said that a paper is the life of a scholar.
