The Polignac conjecture belongs to the strong conjecture on twin prime numbers, that for all natural numbers k, there exist infinitely many pairs of prime numbers (p, p+2k). And the case k = 1 is the twin prime conjecture, i.e., there exist infinitely many prime numbers p such that p + 2 is prime.

The latter has been proved by Orion in February this year, using a complementary method of topology to the sieve Theory.

Prior to that, mathematicians such as Zhang Yitang had completed the study of "bounded distances between primes" by proving from 70 million to 246. And these conclusions, all belong to the (P, P + 2K) form, provides a strong clue for the proof of Polignac's conjecture.

So far, the parts of "k=1" and "k=123, ......, 3.5X10^7" have been completed. This piece of the puzzle has been nearly completed.

All that remains is to extend "k=1" to "infinity".

If the twin prime conjecture only got Orion nominated for the 2018 Fields Medal, then completing the proof of the Polignac conjecture is almost guaranteed to get him the '18 Fields Medal.

However, although it is very simple to say, but really want to "K = 1" to "infinity", the difficulty is still not small.

In terms of methodology alone, this is a completely new endeavour. The conclusion of the twin prime conjecture and the process of proving it may only provide Orion with an idea. To prove the Polignac conjecture, perhaps he would have to create an entirely new method of proof, as he had done at Princeton.

Even now that his maths level had risen from LV2 to LV3, there was still a considerable difficulty in trying to complete this work.

And the worst thing was that the system restricted the completion time, requiring it to be before 2016.

In other words, if you want to get the reward for the task, you have to solve the problem within 2015.

On the other hand, there was also a great deal of randomness in this reward. However, Orion felt that the twin prime conjecture had received more than 40,000 experience, so how could the strong conjecture of this twin prime be lower than that, right?

Not to mention it was still a bonus task.

So, he was still quite excited about this reward.

  ......

After receiving the mission, Orion exited the system space and fell into a deep sleep until noon the next day.

Only when he woke up, he realised that there were five or six missed calls hanging in his mobile phone.

Looking at the phone numbers, they were all from Stewart's office, and Orion could guess that it was probably Joannes who had told the old man that he had returned.

Thinking that he had to go to the old gentleman's office later anyway, he didn't rush to call back.

Before lunch, he had one more important thing to do.

After climbing down from the bed, brushing his teeth and washing his face, Orion once again entered the system space and tapped on the item bar.

[Scanning Gun (Disposable): can perform a panoramic scan of the internal structure of an object with a volume scale of 1 cubic metre, analysing its structure and composition].

The system's introduction was brief, but Orion probably knew how to use this thing.

Moreover, when used well, the ability of this thing was simply unbelievable. It doesn't matter if it's a chip Stepper/photolithography machine or Iron Man's suit, one shot at it and the technology inside will be analysed clearly for you. As long as the production process problem is solved, it is no problem to build another one originally.
