Chapter 60: Wanna witness a historical moment?

　　After the graduation defence, Orion took a few well-deserved days off to refresh himself for his upcoming postgraduate studies.

　　The matter of school registration was quickly taken care of. So, Orion enrolled at Gordon University again. And this time, it was as a graduate student.

　　After some serious consideration, Orion finally followed Professor Tang's advice to pursue his degree under Academician Stewart.

　　Firstly, he had the intention to develop his career in the direction of Mathematical Physics a long time ago, and secondly, Professor Tang was right in saying that although he had not been involved in the mountain-stronghold mentality in the academic world, it was indeed an objective phenomenon that could not be ignored.

　　Utilitarian considerations, if you intend to advance to a higher level of the field, there is an academician as their mentor, or quite helpful. For example, apply for a national project, whether it is money or people, are certainly better than him alone.

　　For these reasons, he applied to Stewart as a postgraduate student. And Professor Stewart was quite welcoming to Orion's choice.

　　It had been a long time since he had taken on a postgraduate student, both because he was too old to have the energy and because he just didn't have the time to do the research, but after seeing Orion's potential to study theoretical physics, he was moved to take on a student once again.

　　Theoretical physics is an advanced discipline, especially in the area of high energy physics, which focuses on studying and revealing the mysteries of the microscopic world and high dimensional space at the 10^(-18) metre scale.

　　Mathematics, on the other hand, is an important theoretical tool for the study of high-energy physics, in addition to particle colliders.

　　The combination of the two will often produce unexpected chemical reactions.

　　The direction Orion has chosen is precisely the imaginative direction of mathematical physics.

　　In this regard, Academician Stewart is looking forward to it.

　　Office in the Laboratory Building, Academician Stewart briefly commented on his situation after explaining to him what he needed to pay attention to in pursuing his degree.

　　"...... Your accomplishment in areas such as number theory and general function analysis is high, as Professor Tang and Professor Nelson commented on you after your defence. I don't know much about number theory, but generalised functions and algebra are mathematical tools that are useful in studying theoretical physics. Since you have chosen mathematical physics as your main research area, my advice to you would be to selectively listen to a few physics classes, either undergraduate or graduate. Read a few more books on theoretical physics and catch up on the physics piece as soon as possible."

　　After a moment's pause, Stewart continued, "By the way, did you get that paper published yet?" Orion replied, "I've already submitted it to Advances in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics." The paper is just now getting past the technical editors and into the peer review process. Depending on how it goes, maybe it will be reviewed this month, maybe next month.

　　But no matter what, for this bimonthly journal, it would be at least two months before seeing the paper in print.

　　Stewart nodded, "It's a good journal that my lab subscribes to. I've read that paper, and the viewpoints put forward are also very novel, if the reviewers are engaged in research in the direction of quantum mechanics, they should be able to see the value of that paper, and it's not much of a problem to have it accepted."
