Jane spent the next few days at home. It was totally because she was enjoying reading and searching her library. It had absolutely nothing to do with a certain Uncle she was trying to avoid.

Jane had sent a letter to Griphook with Iago about anything he had noticed on her ancestry test before it had all gone to hell. She had also started reading up on different creatures. Which was like saying you had started reading up on mammals. Everything she read felt like a drop in an impossibly large bucket. Jane was leaning back in the tower, wrapped in a black wool blanket when one of the pane windows opened for Iago to fly in. It closed silently as the raven landed on the table in front of her. She took the envelope and slip of parchment. She gave Iago a pat, scratching at his throat fluff. He gave a throaty croak before flying down the stairs.

Jane looked at the slip of parchment. It was the scratchy scrawl of Griphook. All it said was that Lord Emrys sent the letter and he applied the usual precautions. Jane ripped open the envelope slowly and pulled out several pages of parchment. She looked at the neat handwriting in tight lines. It made her think he was trying to limit the number of pages he sent but also had too much he wanted to say.

Hello Bane. (Not a very good alias.)

Why are you not with your Father? I have already looked into this a bit and know that you are considered missing person, taken by your mother. Is it that you prefer her? But she was not with you, but well she is wanted.

On another note, I thought I would explain a bit about what creature blood you have as your uncle. We have been called many things but we generally prefer the Fae. (I'm only a half, you would be a quarter.) The Fae covers many different variations and races, including but not exclusive to, the elves, pixies, high elves, light elves, dark elves, and the like. Fae blood can have odd effects on inheritance tests, so it is not surprising that an ancestry test was required. Now our line is a bit different and rather rare, but we will get to that.

Early inheritance is often caused by interacting with strong Fae magic or because your magic is forcing itself early to protect you. Once it settles you should be able to will it away and call it back. The shadows are an expression of your magic. It is harmless to you.

Some basic rules of etiquette; Don't' thank the Fae, ever. It can be used as admitting to owing a debt. Don't trust the Fae. Some are far older then they appear and they will use your assumptions against you. It's said that Fae can't lie, but they can twist the truth to be better than any lie. (Personally I don't know if it's true or if it applies more to pure Fae.) I am not sure how this will apply to you, as most go through their lives never realising they have interacted with the Fae. Half's normally keep it to themselves, as they are often ostracised from the older ones.

I do not know how powerful you will be. Only time can tell.

I would like to meet so that we can talk. They serve excellent tea and baked goods at Rosa Lee Teabag. How about lunch tomorrow at one. I hope we can meet before the term starts again. (You are attending Hogwarts, correct?) Either way I will be waiting there at one if you wish to meet. If I don't see you I will send you another letter and perhaps we can correspond? I would like to get to know you more as your Uncle.

Sincerely

Einar Aldric Emrys

Jane tucked the letter back into the envelope. What the absolute fuck?

She didn't know what she was doing. Jane was loitering in a bookshop down the street from Rosa Lee Teabags. She had been for almost twenty minutes waiting for him to show. When he had she watched for another fifteen. Her palms were sweaty and she wiped them against her black dress pants. No one else seemed to be with him and he wasn't looking at anyone in particular. He was slowly reading the Daily Profit ad sipping at a steaming cup.
