chapter 31 - five

3rd POV

Kyo woke up bright and early on her birthday which also happens to be the first day of the academy. She hurriedly got dressed and gathered her school things together. By the time her mother came to wake her up she was already set to leave.

"Goodness Kyo, you're up early today. Excited are we?" said Mikoto.

Kyo was practically jumping up and down.

"Today I start at the academy mommy! How could I not be excited?"

Mikoto chuckled and said "Its also your 5th birthday."

Kyo stopped jumping and looked at her mother with big eyes. She gasped. How could she forget her own birthday. Then she started jumping up and down even more.

"THATS RIGHT IT IS MY BIRTHDAY TODAY. THAT MAKES TODAY SO MUCH BETTER!!" she yelled.

Her mother chuckled at her daughter who was so excited to start her days as an academy student that she forgot her birthday.

"Well then since you're pretty much all ready to go let's head to the dinning room to get you some breakfast."

"Okay mommy lets go!"

Kyo grabbed her mothers hand and led her to the dinning room where everyone in the house was getting ready to eat as well. After greeting everyone Kyo sat down at the table and everyone started to eat their meals.

"So Kyo are you excited for your first day at the academy?" asked Itachi.

Kyo nodded up and down vigorously and said "yeah nii-san I'm super duper excited. I cant wait!"

"Now Kyo you are aware that there are higher expectations of you than the other students not only because of what happened to you but also because of the fact that you are an Uchiha. Daughter of the clan head as a matter of fact. So you must do your very best from the beginning. No lollygagging in class." said Fugaku.

Kyo meekly looked at her father and nodded saying "Yes father I shall do my very best.I will not disappoint you."

After their exchange the table was quiet the rest of breakfast. Soon it was time for Kyo and sasuke to head to the academy. Once their dishes were put away they went to their rooms to grab their belongings. When they went to say goodbye to their parents they were told to have a good day at the academy and study hard.

Mikoto waved Kyo over to her and squatted down to her level and said "Happy Birthday my daughter I hope your first day goes very well for you. You show those kids what you're made of."

Kyo smiled and responded "I will mommy thank you".

After kissing her mother goodbye Kyo grabbed her stuff and went to the front door where Sasuke was waiting for her.

"Ready kiki?" he asked

She nodded with a bright smile and then they were off.

Sasuke watched his little sister skip in front of him on their way to the academy with a smile. They had made a quick stop at the store so sasuke could buy kyo her favorite bag of chips and she started munching on them as soon as they were paid for.

All was going well when all of a sudden a blur of orange ran past him towards kyo. He rolled his eyes already knowing that his peaceful stroll to the academy with his sister was ruined.

"KYOOOOO"

"NARUTOOOO"

After nearly dropping her bag of chips Kyo turned to see who had bumped her so hard only to see it was one of her closest friends.

Kyo and Naruto haven't seen each other for a while with Kyo's training and everything so the pair were very excited to see each other.

They were so absorbed in the conversation that naruto didn't see he was about to bump into someone.

"Watch out Naruto!" Kyo said as she pulled naruto to the side.

"Ugh watch where you're going naruto, such a drag."

"HI SHIKA" kyo yelled with excitement in her eyes.

"Yeah hey key. Are you excited for your first day?" asked Shikamaru.

"Oh yeah Shika i'm SO excited". She responded.

As they were talking to one another naruto finally noticed sasuke trailing behind them now somewhat relieved that naruto had left his sister alone.

Naruto made his way over to him and said "How come kyo hangs out with weirdos like shikamaru?"

"You're the weirdo Naruto" sasuke answered with a glare.

Naruto just made a face at sasuke in response.

"Besides, Kyo and Shikamaru have been best friends for years. Much longer than she's been friends with you." said Sasuke.

Naruto scoffs and says "Whatever that doesn't mean she isn't my friend too.".

Before the group had known it they made it to the academy.

"Good luck on your first day oh and happy birthday Kyo" shikamaru said.

"IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY??? Oh my god it IS your birthday." said Naruto.

"You can freak out about her birthday another time Kyo has to get to class." said Shikamaru.

"Oh yeah Kyo I'll walk you to your class." said Naruto.

"No i'll take her she's MY sister I'LL take care of her....Where'd she go?" said sasuke. The group looked around and discovered that Kyo had wandered off. Sasuke then heard laughing and turned over his shoulder to see Kyo laughing about something with Choji.

"Kyo lets go, you can play with your friends later" called sasuke.

Kyo had said see you later to choji and made her way back to sasuke saying "OUR friends sasu these are OUR friends."

"Lets just go find your class." said Sasuke.

Taking her hand Sasuke led Kyo inside towards her class.

"Okay Kiki here it is. Better go inside it's about to start." said Sasuke.

"Wait then aren't you going to be super late to your class?" asked a concerned Kyo.

"No my class doesn't start until after yours ends. Since you're younger your class goes first. The academy doesn't have enough teachers right now so they have to do different years at different times. So when your class is done wait by the swings over there for either me or one of your brothers to come get you." said Sasuke.

Kyo nodded and took sasuke by surprise by hugging him.

"Thanks for walking me to class Sasu-nii." she said.

Sasuke smiled at his sister softly and ruffled her hair.

"See you after class kyo. Maybe we can do some light training later."

Kyo nodded at her brother with a smile and fixed her hair. Then she turned around took a deep breath and walked into her classroom with confidence.

After watching Kyo introduce herself to her teacher Sasuke then walked back outside to the field to practice before class.

Kyo walked in and looked up to the man in front of the class. He looked over at her and then squatted down to her level and said "Hello! My name is Iruka. You can call me Iruka sensei and I'll be your teacher for the year. What's your name?".

Suddenly a bit shy kyo quietly said "Hello Iruka sensei my name is Kyo Uchiha".

Iruka smiled at kyo's shyness and said "We'll Kyo welcome to the academy you can find a seat and we'll soon get started."

Kyo smiled at her new teacher and made her way to her seat in the front row determined to do well.
