The crew at my house is already setting up because Hurricane Agatha's already on its way.
I try to go help John B with the shutters and the lines and whatever else he needs to do to try to keep that old shack from breaking down. But my dad said we weren't allowed the leave the property. No arguing. He's serious when he says it, and dad's serious means we stay.
The next morning is a mess.
"Be careful with that. Rose is gonna kill me" Dad warns the workers as they lift a statue.
"Yes, sir Mr. Cameron." The worker nodded.
"I don't wanna know how much it cost" Dad mutters under his breath.
"Dad, the Wi-Fi's not working. I can't post anything" Wheezie whines, clutching her phone like it might explode.
"Wheezie, there was a hurricane, sweetheart" dad said.
"No, no, no, no!" Sarah yells, waving a tennis racket at the birds like she's got a vendetta against flight.
"What is your sister doing?" Dad asks me.
"Saving mice and having a good time" I say with a smile.
"Sarah!" Dad yells, taking a few steps toward her with a woman trailing behind- someone who was clearly distressed and important.
Perfect moment to sneak out.
I head to kie's place to meet the crew.
John B, JJ, and Pope pull up in the boat like they own the inlet.
"Oh top o' the mornin' to ya" JJ calls, grinning as usual.
"Morning" I say.
"Morning" John B answers, eyes half on the horizon.
"Whatcha got?" JJ asks, scanning the cooler.
"You got some juice boxes?" Pope asks
"You know- just some yogurts and carrot sticks" Kie said.
JJ helped her onto the boat; John B helping me.
"How about my kind of juice box?" JJ asks, that stupid smirk on his face.
"Yeah" kie says with a laugh. She sets the cooler down, and we each take one out.
"Salud." I say
"Skoal" JJ answers.
"Bet you can't do this. Tell the world. A party trick." JJ announces, standing at the bow.
"Hey, Pope. Can you go a little faster?" JJ asks, taking a dramatic stance.
"Here we go. I'm movin'" John B says, moving behind pope.
"You've tired this what- six hundred times. And it never works" I said
