I crashed at John b's that night, refusing to step foot back inside Topper's house. My chest still buzzed from the fight, adrenaline mixing with guilt, mixing with relief as the boys replayed every detail like it was a highlight reel.
"That was epic" Pope said, wide eyed.
"Did you guys see Kelce's face?" John B laughed.
"Bomb drop!" JJ yelled, dunking the basketball straight into the couch before collapsing on it. To which the couch broke.
John b pointed at him. "Another broken couch. You gotta sleep there tonight." He said
JJ shrugged. "I always sleep there anyway" he said
Before John b could retort, JJ grinned over my shoulder. "Well hello, princess." He said
"What's up?" Kie asked
"Long time no see" Pope said.
"Came to hang?" I asked with a smile.
Sarah had been at our house. Wanting time to be alone. Which i understood, I checked on her almost every hour since that day.
Sarah shook her head. "Actually... I'm here for Pope. I think I found the island room." She said
Everything stopped.
We all gathered around the table. "Guys listen to this. The diary says the cross holds the most holy relic in all of Christendom the Garment of the Savior." Pope said
"So wait he's saying there's a holy garment inside the cross?" Kie asked.
"Yeah. It says the garment is capable of healing the sick from any malady" Pope tapped a page.
JJ cleared his throat dramatically. "Mmm yeah. 'If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.' " he said
We all stared.
"What? I went to Sunday school." JJ said
"Sure." Kie muttered.
"Well, that explains why Limbrey would want the cross so bad" I said
Pope nodded. "She thinks it can heal her" he added.
"What else does it say?" Kie asked
"Many feel that we have sinned to steal such a sacred thing and God will strike His vengeance on us." Pope read the diary.
"Thing is God did have His vengeance" Kie said
"He sent a hurricane to sink the ship" Pope said "Only Denmark survived." He added
