I was out early on the boat, trying to sleep- or at least fake it. Didn't work.
One, because someone was walking around on the deck. And two, well- technically it was only that one reason.
I cracked my eyes open and saw John B.
"Uh...what are you doing?" I asked, my voice still scratchy.
He froze, caught mid step. "Um...totally not stealing your dad's tanks?" He says
"Mmkay, sure." I said, sitting up. "Welp, I'm coming with. Where we going?" I ask
"I'll explain on the boat" he grinned, reaching a hand out to pull me up.
A few minutes later, we were out in the marsh.
"This is empty. You took empty tanks?" Kie asked, staring at the hear.
"I- you didn't tell me they were empty." John b said, looking at me.
"Excuse me? How would I know? I haven't used them in forever" I shot back.
Kie checked the gauges. "Okay, this one's a quarter full. It's enough for one of us." She said
"Love it when a plan comes together" Pope muttered.
"Does anybody know how to dive?" Kie asked.
"It's kind of a Kook sport" JJ said.
Everyone looked at me.
I sighed. "Ugh. Fine. I'll do it" I said.
"Okay, so, if you come up too fast, nitrogen gets into your blood, and you get the bends" Pope starts
JJ arched his back dramatically. "Bends like bend over and-" he started.
"The bends kill you, idiot" I said.
"Right." He nodded quickly.
"Let me do some calculations real quick" Pope said, scribbling on a notepad. "That boat's about 30 feet down. So it'll take 25 minutes at that depth. Which means you need to make your safety stop at about.... ten feet. All right? For two minutes" he said
"Ten feet, two minutes- got it" I repeat.
Kie stripped her shirt and dove into the water.
"Uh, what was that?" John b asked.
"I don't know, but I liked it, a lot" JJ said, grinning.
