When I round the corner, I hear my dad's voice echoing from the security's phone.
"Was he in the house? He wasn't in the house was he? Let me see his face. Put the camera on his face." He demands.
"Hold his head up." One of the guards orders.
I sprint to the control box and twist the valve.
The sprinkler system explodes to life, drenching the yard.
"What the hell?"
"Hey!"
"Hurry up! Get those sprinklers off!" They yell
I duck behind a column as one of them storms past me.
"Is it off?"
"Yeah."
"Why'd the sprinklers go off?
"Ah! I don't know. Okay."
"All right stay alert." They said
I grab a bottle of bug spray from the porch and step out.
"What is going on?" I say, masking my shaky voice.
"Who are you? Hey- hold it right there." A guard says, gun raised.
I hold my hands up.
"I'm Val. I'm house-sitting for the Camerons." I said calmly.
"You live here?" a guard asked
"No, I'm house-sitting. I just started a week ago" I said
"We caught this guy trying to break in" the guard says, shoving john b forward.
"What? Oh- I know him. He cleans boats for the neighbors." I said
"Which neighbors?" the guard asked
"Like- the Stanleys. Down the street" I said
"What's his name?" the guard asked
I hesitated.
"Vlad." I say, then blast bug spray straight into the guards faces.
John b tackles the second guard and I spray the rest.
"Stella, come on! Go to the car." John b yells
I scramble into the truck bed while he jumps behind the wheel.
"Go! Go! Go! Go!" I yell
"I'm going. I'm going" John B yells, flooring it.
"Faster!" I shout as one of the guards gains on us.
He grabs my leg.
"No! Get off me!" I yell
"Come here!" He yells
"Oh shit" John B mutters
I kick as hard as I can. The guard finally drops, falling into the road.
"Star, you good?" John B asks
"Just drive!" I snap
When we finally get back into town, he pulls over. We spill out of the truck.
"Okay. I have never loved you more Stella Cameron. That was crazy. You straight up donkey-kicked that dude-" he started
"You lied to me." I shove him
