"We're gonna go melt the bricks down so they're not traceable" John B tells me as we walk together at my house.

"Okay." I nod, trying not to smile at the way he gets when there's a plan. He looks like a golden retriever pretending to be a wolf.

"We'll take it to the pawnshop and after that, we'll pay for JJ's restitution" he adds

"How many bars?" I ask

"I don't know. It was all muddy. I think it was like 500" John B says

I literally stop moving.

"500?" I echo

"600" John B corrects himself.

"600 bars of gold?" I ask, my voice jumping up like it has a mind of its own.

"I don't know. Could be a thousand. It was all muddy but it was everywhere. Covering the walls stacks of it. Four hundred million dollars.
It's all there" he says

I laugh in disbelief- party excitement, part of my God what the hell did we just step into.

"That's crazy!" I said

"We did it." John b smiles, and God, it hits different. It's soft, proud, warm.

"We did it." I smile back.

"Now we just have to get it out of there" John B adds

"Right. So how will we do that?" I ask

"Okay so, Pope has a plan..." he started

"As always" I say

"Basically takes a pulley system. We just have to get back in the well and dig it out" John B explains.

I laugh a little.
"I'll be honest, I never thought we would find the gold. But I should've known you always pull off the impossible" I said

He smirks.
"Eh- well it was only because you knocked some sense into my head" he said

"Yeah I agree. Where would you be without me?" I tease

"Probably long gone by now" he says, smiling back at me...and we lean in, almost without realizing it.

There's that feeling again- like the world goes quiet right before something big happens.

Then-

A cough.

We both jerk apart.

"Hey." My dad said

"Hi." I smile, trying- failing- not to blush.

"Hey" John B says, clearing his throat.

"What are you two plotting?" Dad asks

"Just the... usual stuff" John B lies terribly.
