~Lydia's POV~
I see Rosie come downstairs with a smile on her face.
"You and Jace okay I take it?" I ask.
"Yeah," she says before going outback. I grab a pale bucket and a pickax and head outside towards the stream. The stream had a thin layer of ice covering it so I take the pickax and break the ice so I could get some water. The water was freezing as I put my hand and the bucket in to get water. I walk in to find Travis munching on berries.
"Young man we have to save those until summer comes around again," I say taking them from him.
"Sorry I just didn't get breakfast," he says pouting.
"And who's fault was that?" I ask before going outside to put the water on the fire to boil. Jace was outside cutting wood, Robert was counting how much deer we had, Rosie was helping dad with the hide, Ethan was in town, and Travis was jumping in between jobs.
"Anyone need anything sewed?" I ask them before I went inside.
"There is a hole in my pants upstairs if you don't mind," Jace says. I nod and walk upstairs to get his pants. I grab his pants and a couple other clothes to wash after I finish the sewing. I go to get Rosie's sleeping wear off her bed a notice moms clip laying on her bed. I grab it and take it downstairs, put the clothes on the table and walk outside where she was still helping dad get the hide ready for new clothes.
"Rosie you missing something?" I ask holding up her clip. She looks at me and then feels the back of her hair. She gets up and comes over to me and takes the clip, hugs me then goes back to what she was doing. I go back inside and start sewing up the the hole in Jace's pants. After fifteen minutes of sewing I take them and the rest of the clothes to the hole in the ice in the stream I made earlier. I grab the soap off the stump that we near the stream and start washing the clothes. My fingers were bright red and felt like they were burning when I finished. I take them to the clothes line and hang them up when I see Ethan come walking up to the house with shotgun shells in hand.
"Dad!" He screams. I follow him outback because I had nothing else to do.
"That's all you got?" Dad asks when he sees Ethan with only one box of shotgun shells.
"I couldn't get anymore, need more hide," he says.
"Rosie!" Dad yells. She stands up and looks at him.
"How much hide is cleaned and ready?" He asks her.
"Um, enough for him to take some to the city," she says. She hands Ethan some hide and he goes back to the city. We have little money so we trade with the city to get what we need. I go back inside to see Travis on the floor and his head was busted open.
