~Rosie's POV~
I don't like sewing. I think to myself as I shovel eggs into my mouth, enjoying the flavor of campfire eggs. "Rosie you eat like a pig," I hear Ethan say in disgust. "Don't talk to Rosie that way," Lydia says out of habit. Ethan glares at us both, before going back to poking his eggs. I poke my eggs, half thinking and half listening.
Eventually breakfast is done with and I help mom put the dishes away and wash them, then we get to sewing. My fingers were slim and nimble, so it was easy to sew, I just hated how much time I had to spend inside. Lydia was lucky, she got to hunt today. Oh well, everyone has to do the boring chores every now and then. I was too busy thinking that I didn't realize what I was doing and ended up poking myself in the finger with the sewing needle, oh well looks like my clothes will have my own blood on them. "Rosie? Did you injure yourself?" Mom asks me, noticing that I had stopped sewing. "Yes mom," I say before tucking that finger into my pocket, making sure it couldn't move. "Let me see," she says, setting her sewing aside and walking over to me. "It's nothing," I say to her, showing her my finger. It was bleeding pretty badly now and I noticed the cut it had left. "Rosie, Rosie, Rosie, what are we going to do with you?" Mom asks while grabbing the first aid kit she kept in this room. I reluctantly held my finger out again, letting her clean it and put a bandage on it. "There, all good," she says before patting my cheek and going back to her sewing. "Hey mom," I say after we had been sewing in the quietness for awhile. "Yes dear?" She asks, not looking at me. "When can me and Lydia go to the city?" I ask, my blue eyes shining. "I don't know.." Mom says uncertainly. I sigh and continue sewing, sewing usually lasted all day, except for breaks to make lunch and dinner.
After we had been sewing for awhile, it was time for lunch. We had leftover squirrel with some berries, a simple lunch. "Dear Lord, we thank you for this squirrel and these berries today. In Jesus's name we pray, Amen," the entire family murmurs Amen, before we start to eat. I eat sensibly, even though Ethan was still in the city. "Dad, when can me and Lydia go into the city?" I ask, wanting an answer. "Whenever your responsible enough," dad says in a tone that says no more questions. I grumble to myself as I stab some squirrel meat with my uninjured hand. "What happened older sis?" Travis asks me, pointing to my finger. "Sewing accident," I say quietly to Travis. "Oh," is all he says back. I nod my head and finish eating my lunch. I clean my plate and then walk back upstairs to the sewing room.
