The game paused and I turn to see a tall man standing in the doorway. His eyes were stern and his mouth didn't show a frown nor a smile.
"Oh hey dad," Robert says standing up and stands in front of me, either to hide me or protect me.
"Who are they?" His dad asks calmly.
"These are our new friends, Rosie and Lydia," Jace says a tad protective.
"Well why are they in MY house without MY permission?" He asks. I sit in my chair as calmly as I could but on the inside I was absolutely scared.
"Mom said it was okay," Robert says still standing in front of me. Their father walks into the room towards Robert and gets up in his face. He was so close that even I could smell the whiskey in his breath.
"Did I say it was okay?!" He screams. I saw their mother walk in and walk up behind their father.
"Honey, dinner is almost done. Come help me set the table," she says calmly leading him out of the room. After they left the knots in my stomach loosened only a little but I couldn't get the horrible smell of whiskey to leave my brain.
"How can YOU TWO come from THEM TWO?" Rosie asks.
"Believe me we do," Robert says sighing and sitting back down before continuing, "Jace and I made a packed that we would never be like our parents. So we've tried to be the complete opposite." Jace nodded at that and I instantly fell bad for the two. Their mother called for dinner and they offered us food but I didn't feel like eating. I go back up to our "room" and sit down on the bed and sigh.
"What's wrong?" I hear Rosie ask. She was standing in the doorway looking at me then she came and sat down next to me.
"I feel so bad for them, I never even considered the fact some parents are awful," I say thinking about my own family and how worried they must be.
"Well, Lydia think about it this way. If their parents weren't like they were Jace and Robert wouldn't be like they are," Rosie says trying to calm me.
"But it isn't right they have to go through that," I say sighing.
"I know, but unfortunately we can't stop ignorance," she says. I nod in agreement but I still wish I could stop the cruelty.
