~Lydia's POV~
I twirled my pocket knife around as Robert came up behind me.
"Bandit?" He asks. I stop twirling and turn around.
"Yeah," I say smiling.
"Don't you need him for hunting?" He asks confused.
"He's getting old," I say. Robert sits down next to me.
"Well thank you," he says. I smile and we sit silently in front of the fire. Soon the whole family joins us by the fire and we roast some marshmallows Jace had got when he went to the city the other day.
"These are good," I say blowing the fire from the marshmallow. Robert laughs at me as he eats his. The room got quiet, just the crackling of the fire and the coyotes howling in the distance.
"I think it's time for bed," dad says pouring water on the fire. I yawn and nod and all of us go upstairs for bed.
"Happy birthday," I hear from beside me. I sleepily open my eyes to see Robert sitting at the side of my bed smiling. I just laugh and sit up to stretch. Robert leaves to let me get dressed and I see Rosie fixing her hair. She went to put in her clip but it kept falling out. I laugh and walk over to help her.
"Here," I say fixing it.
"Thanks," she says smiling. She looks down at my locket and fixes it so the it isn't backwards.
"You ready?" I ask. She smiles and nods and we walk down stairs where everyone was sitting at the table waiting on us. Dad made our favorite, snow ice cream and hot chocolate.
"How is this breakfast?" Rosie asks laughing.
"I know you two love this, doesn't have to be breakfast food," dad says smiling.
"Thanks dad," I say and kiss him on the forehead. Rosie and I take our seat, we pray and eat our breakfast.
"Happy birthday," Ethan says shoving ice cream in his mouth.
"Thanks," Rosie and I say together. Breakfast went by and it was time for gifts.
"Okay Rosie your the oldest so you start," dad says.
"Alright," Rosie says as Travis gives her her gifts. Rosie grabs the smallest wrapped gift on the table. She slowly opens it and it was a little box. She opens the box and I couldn't see what it was but Rosie smiled and hugged Jace.
"Oh it's beautiful! Put it on me!" She says. Jace grabs a necklace out of the box and it had a little rose on it. Next Rosie unwraps Travis's present, a clip that looked like moms. She opens the gift from dad, a new pair of sandals. The she opens the the gift from Ethan.
"What the heck is it?" Rosie asks looking at it.
"It's a ring," he replies. In Rosie's hand was a silver circle the size of her finger with her name on it.
"Isabel helped me find it," Ethan says. She grabs the last gift from the table which was from Robert. It was a small jacket.
"Thank you guys," she says.
"Not done yet," I reply. I stand up and give her my gift, a weaved homemade basket.
"For when berries come back in season," I say. She smiles and hugs me and then it was my turn. I first open the gift from Ethan which was the same thing as Rosie's but it had my name on it instead. Next was Travis's gift which was some new hunting shoes.
"How'd you get these?" I ask him.
"Rosie taught me how to make them," he replies. I smile and set them down. I grab the gift from Rosie, it was a blanket.
"I thought you hated sewing?" I ask her laughing.
"I do, but I noticed yours is getting to small for you," she says. I hug her and look at the three presents still left on the table. I open the smallest one first, It was from Robert. It was a small bracelet weaved from old cloth.
"How did you learn how to make a bracelet?" I ask him.
"Well I started out weaving something last nigh and then it turned into a bracelet," he says laughing. I hug him and open the gift from Jace. It was a little bowl.
"A bowl?" I ask.
"Figured you could use it for cooking," he says shrugging. I laugh and take everything upstairs.
