Recovery.
A return to normal health.
“Walk with me,” his deep voice said. He took my fragile hands in his, taking me away from the garden.
“Where are we going to?” I asked unsure.
“Do not worry, you’ll see,” Was all he said before I followed. I let him lead me to the unknown. I watched him, he looked so focused leading me down to the woods, paths which I’ve never walked before.
I turned my focus from him, thinking about Anna. I haven’t seen Dylan since I came back. He wasn’t there during the commotion and I haven’t seen him with Anna either. They were mates and thinking about it made me feel happy.
“Look here,” Roux deep voice echoed and following it, my eyes landed on a lookalike statue, like the one I was zapped in when I followed the my mother’s voice.
“Why are we here?” I asked, still in a trance like state, looking at the statue in front of me. It was in the shape of a woman running away from something that was overly terrifying. The other one I had seen before was of a man who stood still but it was glowing while this one was just dim.
“Remember the story I told you about the other statue being linked to the dead?” He asked and I nodded my head, still focused on the statue while I listened to him.
“Well, this one wasn’t here before not until after my mothers death,” I was so taken in by the statue that I didn’t realize that I was reaching out my hands to touch it but I couldn’t. It was like a barrier was stopping me.
“You wouldn’t be able to, it’s spelled,” He said and immediately, I retracted my hands. “Why is it?” I asked.
“Remember when I said something about my mother not telling us something. It’s a secret that she never told us but I found out after I had encountered this statue. The story goes back to the era of the first lycan,” He explained.
I didn’t understand the thing about the first lycan. I knew my grandfather was of the first generation but it didn’t all make sense.
“What story?” I asked unsure.
“The first lycan was created about five hundred years before what we know as the first generation lycans. He was the only lycan in that era with so many other werewolves. His rein as king was strong before he started to rebel against the moon goddess. The moon goddess was not so forgiving so she cleared all of the were kind and killed the first lycan but the moon goddess spared his last son Lucan and his family, Lucan was the only one who wasn’t corrupt. Lucan was mated to an Omega with a child”
I listened to what Roux had to say. I never heard the story of the first lycan, I felt so foolish, knowing nothing of the history of the were kind.
“Everyone believed that Lucan’s son Ailin had died without any known ailment and Darkmoon was inked with royalty because the first lycan was buried here and Ailin who was thought to be the last generation had died, My mother was of the generation of the first lycan. Ailin died but he had a family and my mother’s mother Isabeau had been his only daughter. Isabeau was the first mate of the alpha in rainforest pack, the Grandfather of Elias. Isabeau died shortly of an unknown illness leaving him a daughter, Airini. He was later mated to another woman before they had Athanasi, Elias’s father,”
What Roux had said was a lot to take in, Isabeau, Lucan, the names were so confusing but if Airini was indeed the generation of the first Lycan then Roux and Annabelle are too.
“I know what you’re thinking Maya. We are of the first lycan generation, I and my sister Annabelle, partly, just like my mother. My father mated with my mother solely for this reason. He wanted to end the generation of the first lycan so he can rein as the one supreme king. Few council men knew about this, they also planned to eliminate I and my sister but before their plan could succeed, I killed them all. With the help of a witch, this statue was sealed. It’s where my mom was killed. It holds a special place in my heart that’s why I decided to show it to you,”
Judging from what Roux had said, the first lycan generation before Roux and Annabelle had died early by an unknown ailment and I wonder what it was that killed them. Ailin and Isabeau must have been in the same time as my grandfather while Airini and Athanasi would be in the same time as my father and Roux’s father.
“So, how did you find out about the statue?” I asked.
“It was the night when my father had gone out annoyed when I had asked him where my mother was. He lashed out at me again but he didn’t know I had followed him secretly. I had soiled my self in mud to tamper my scent. I saw my father and some other council men in this spot looking at the strange statue that mirrored that of the first lycan in awe. I saw that it was my mother and how she had turned to a statue was disheartening. They looked pleased. They gave the witch they had employed plenty of money while they thought of how they were going to end I and my sister,”
The story was so disheartening, turning a living breathing woman Into a statue and trying to kill his own children. That was beyond wickedness.
“No one deserves to go through something as disheartening as that,” I expressed. It didn’t seat well with me, the thought of Roux, his sister going through something like that. He was my mate and his pain was mine. He held my hands tightly and I turned to look at him. His brown orbs were the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. He looked back at me with the same intensity before he broke the gaze, ruffling his hair with his hands.
We both went back to the pack house, our hands still entangled. Our bond was growing closer just as seconds passed. Anna was coming out of the pack house with a wide smile plastered on her face. She was chatting happily with Dylan before she sighted me and she waved her hands at both me and Roux. She dragged Dylan with her to our direction.
Dylan was stuck where he was. He couldn’t bring himself to approach me. He wanted to say something but it was like an external force was stopping him. I turned to look at Roux and as if he knew, he released my hands. I smiled at Dylan and I greeted him normally with his name. I wanted to hug him but the eyes that watched us except Anna and Roux glued my feet on the spot at which I stood.
Dylan went on to hug Roux and it was like they both had mutual understanding that was known only to them.
Anna hugged me as well and I began to wonder where all of the sudden happiness had come from.
“Shelley has woken up,” Anna said joyfully. She just couldn’t stop herself from smiling.

In Shelley’s room, Zia sat on one side of the bed while her mother was picking up all the items she had used and on seeing us, she excused herself. Diana smiled at me before she engulfed me in a hug.
Shelley was still lying on the bed trying to adjust to the light. Roux went to where she was and she smiled on seeing him. She wanted to sit upright so Roux helped her with it.
“I’m okay now brother Will, I’m not a baby,” She complained and I could see that she was back to her usual self. Her eyes landed on me and immediately she stood from the bed. I didn’t let her walk half the room before I closed the space between us. “I missed you Ley,” I expressed but she had a slight frown on her face. “I’m not a baby and I’m not going to die so stop treating me like one,” She said sharply before she smiled again. She jumped, raised her hands up and when I wanted to go after her, she hid behind Anna before she came out again. “I’m perfectly fine but I want to play and my leg hurts a little from being inside this room,” She wanted to open the door and go out but Diana came after her. She crouched to her height and held her shoulders.
“Just a little while and you can go out to play. Rest so that the medicine would take its full effect,”
Shelley mumbled unknown words to her self before she heeded Diana’s word. Roux help put her back on the bed before Diana gave her injection. We all stood there waiting for her to fall asleep and after she did, we all exited the room, leaving her alone with Diana.
