Attack.
To apply violent force to someone or something.
Life is a very complex phenomenon. The fact that the sole purpose in this life, according to scientists is to survive, I still think there is more to it than just survival.
We were running in the woods, the both of us. It felt like a thrill that I wanted to completely immense myself in. The wind blew lightly, the chilling sensation that still kept me going hoping that I was going to win but it was plain useless. I didn’t want to think about the race. I wanted to enjoy the moment, to feel everything, the trees, the melodious song that the birds sang, The crickety sounds, the big blue sky and the figure that ran in front of me, watching the swirl of his hair that moved with the wind.
“You won’t win if you just keep running at the same pace” He said from where he ran.
“Who cares about winning when you can just take your time and enjoy everything all at once,” I replied.
“You’re a weird one” He added and my mind seemed to have drifted in another direction. I no longer thought of the things that dwelled in front of me, I focused on myself, thinking of things that are beyond my understanding. The fifth element. The lost element, whichever it was.
I stopped for a moment before I started my journey again and then it hit me. The same voice, the same intensity. It called me. I turned around to look for the source but I was met with the trees that I had already passed. Roux was still in front, running. He’s everything in one and was taking the race seriously like his life depended on it.
“You won’t find me there, I am one with the wind now. Just pay attention, think deeper, we’ve met before,” The voice paused and I thought that whoever it was must have given up on me but clearly, I was wrong. “It’s me Anya… please remember me Ralia!” She said again, she poured every inch of her heart in the last sentence, beckoning for me to remember.
Anya, I whispered to myself and hearing her name on my lips, I remembered who she was. I couldn’t believe I forgot about her so easily. She died because me, She helped me escape and just as I thought that I’ll be free at last, they came. The knife, they cut right through her chest, separating her heart from her body. It was a terrible sight to behold. She was brave and didn’t even think about losing her life the moment she had thrown a handful of sand on their eyes, using the stone that her fragile hands could carry, she used it on them and her plan had worked just the way she had imagined it. I remembered her fragile hands on my own, dragging me while I ran with her.
“They’re coming again Ralia, they’re coming here, they are moving very fast. You should run,” She explained to me just before her voice died down. I wanted her to stay, I didn’t want her to leave me. I wanted to tell her that I’m sorry, that I’m sorry she didn’t get to live her life to the fullest, that she got to die such a painful death.
“Anya! Anya!” I called like my life depended on it but no reply came. It was just like the night that her heart was pulled out of her chest. My hands were sweaty, the rapid movement of my chest affected how I saw everything. It was like I was in the deepest part of hell. My head stumbled and fell, everything was spinning and just as I felt that everything was going to end, his voice broke me out, bringing me out before I slowly became myself again.
“Take a deep breath Maya, It’s going to be okay,” I knew he was confused, it was written all over his face, wondering why I was having a panic attack and why I was calling someone who wasn’t there.
“I… I… I felt” I stumbled on my words, feeling so stupid all of a sudden.
Before I couldn’t think of anything, he closed the distance between us. His hands went up to my hair, I inhaled slowly as his fingers made contact with my skin, his touch was hot, causing something to stir in my stomach. It felt like his hands were stuck in my hair. He shifted the stands of my hair on my face, tucking it behind my ears.
His gaze on mine were firm while his hands caught my waist, bringing me closer to him. Our bodies were touching and I didn’t know how to distract myself. His focus shifted to my bare skin right above my shoulders.
The feel of his hands on my waist were all too confusing while my heart was pulsing faster in my chest. The blush that crept up my face was unexplainable while all of my body burned just from his hands on my waist and the proximity we shared. The intensity increased when his fingers grazed my shoulders. I tilted my head subconsciously while he inhaled my scent and without warning, his lips found my skin licking and numbing my sense of reasoning.
“Alpha Roux” Someone’s voice broke us apart, the person seemed disturbed, still dwelling on himself that he didn’t see what we were doing. The Urgency and the terror in his eyes were all too confusing.
“What’s the problem Elijah?” Roux asked
“Rogues” He managed to say, leading us to the pack barrier.
It was littered with dead bodies, about ten. The scent of the rogues were still disturbing. Elijah pointed a distinct dead body to Roux which laid face front.
“A warning, we know you’re hiding her!” Was carved mercilessly on the stomach, legs and hands, the body was something anyone wouldn’t want to see, his intestines and the blood that was still gushing out was terrifying.
Roux ordered Elijah to take me back while he inspected more bodies. I didn’t protest, I followed Elijah silently while I thought about what Anya had said to me and the bodies that I just saw.
“Maya!” Jane ran after me the moment she sighted me. She inspected my body to see if I was hurt before she hugged me.
“Thank goodness you’re okay. I was very worried about you when I heard about the rogues. What about your mate?” She asked.
“He’s okay” I said calming her down. I went with Jane back to the pack house. While Jane went back to her room, I went to the one I shared with Roux.
I lay on the bed, wondering what was going to happen. This was the only place that was safe and now it has been attacked as well. I didn’t know what to think again and the fact that all of this was happening because of me was something I didn’t sit well with.
Roux entered the room, a frown visible. He ordered that I start packing that we’re leaving.
“Is something wrong?” I asked hoping that he was going to ease up if he talked about it.
“Darkmoon is under attack” He answered and I didn’t bother asking another question. I brought out my things, putting all my items in the bag that I had brought. I couldn’t help but think about Darkmoon. Anna, Diana, his little cousin. Everyone one that I care about and innocent souls are in danger because of me.
Roux was already done packing, waiting for me while I was still deep in my thoughts.
“Maya!” He called
“I’m done” I answered meeting his eyes.
I went with Roux while our luggages were carried to the black jeep that waited for us.
Roux was talking about important matters with his cousin while Jane smiled at me.
“I hope you guys visit again. Take care of yourself,” She said before she hugged me.
“I’ll miss you!”
“I’ll miss you too!” She replied.
“Goodbye Elias!” I said while he smiled at me before he waved at me while I left with Roux.
“Take care of yourselves!” He shouted knowing that we would here him.
