Oracle.
A person such as a priest through whom the deity is supposed to respond with prophecy or advice.Maybe a mix of courage and fear could explain what I was feeling now. ‘The oracle’ my mind subconsciously thought.
My eyes trailed down the door that we were about to enter. With Roux by my side, I had nothing to be scared of.
“You may go” He commanded the guards that stuck around us, having it unbearable and the icky feeling being surrounded by men.
The door flew open and the image of what felt like a woman old enough with ancient wisdom came out. Streaks of grey hair leaking out of her perfect dark hair, eye bags visible that made her look unhealthy.
“Come in” She ushered us in, with her hands, making way for us to pass.
She closed the door almost immediately after chanting some unknown words to herself. In a twinkle of an eyes, we were seated, her sable eyes that held a lot feasting on me. My eyes travelled to the painting held on the wall of what seems like White wolf with sapphire eyes that stood tall.
“That’s Nadiya,” she pointed out immediately. I knew it was my mother but of what significance do her painting hold on that wall.
“The oracles look up to her for guidance for she leads to the moon goddess” She explained. Roux was probably bored by the oracle’s sneezy way of speaking.
Her hands caught the tea cup on the table.“Tea?” she asked before she gulped it down in her throat. I looked eagerly, waiting for her to finish her omelette and bread that she stuffed in her mouth, stealing glances from us every minute.
She relaxed on her comfy cushion after she was done.
“What’s your name?” I asked, tired of watching her every step.
“It’s Lucina” she smiled
“Can you get to the point woman” Roux interrupted, tired of her chit-chat.
“Sorry about that” she apologized immediately.
She brings forth her hands for the both of us, we held tight to her, unsure of what she was about to do.
She started with a song that felt familiar, my mom thought me as a child, a song that we sing when we need the moon goddess’s guide.
“The light that shines for you to show yourself, to take us in to your humble abode, to draw us in with substance that we seek little of your glory and rely on the little power you have for us” we all chanted together before she released our hands.
“I know the both of you are mates” she confessed without batting her eyelashes. I turned to steal a glance from Roux but his stoic expression was kept fixed on her.
She untied a fraction from the white blouse she was wearing before she brought out a tiny paper that she read silently to herself.
“Sorry about that” she said uneasy.
What felt like a slight smile was replaced by a very serious look.
“A person, of little life spent in this world is going to die soon. I saw the vision, and not only that, worse scenario is going to unfold in the coming days. This pack needs a Luna and I believe your relationship is not going any further. You must act in unity and bring this unfolding terror approaching to an end,” She explained, standing up from where she was seating, her hands held together at her back. “Maya come with me” she motioned for me. I left Roux’s side who seemed to be pondering on something.
“Alpha Roux, I’m done for the day” she dismissed. He was about to say something before I interrupted.
“I’m fine, I can take care of my self” I told him off before he left.“Follow me” Lucina’s sneezy voice interrupted.
I hopped on to where she was, letting her lead the way, my hands held behind me.
The view from Lucina’s terrace was so beautiful, I used my hands to outline the direction of the stars while she looked on at me. “You like it here?” She asked and I found myself nodding my head. “You’re free to visit whenever you like” she said, something sparkling within her.
“Thank you!” I said excited.
“Something about you feels special, I can’t really pinpoint what it is though, I just have the feeling” she expressed.
“I had a dream with you in it, a book kept drawing you to it, I don’t really know what it is but I believe it’ll solve most of your problems” she said, leading me to the place we initially came from.
“Return safely,” she said, the view of her cottage blurring as I moved farther away from her.
The cold air blew hard on my skin and I wished immediately that I had brought my shawl with me. I held tight, rubbing both my shoulders with my hands. ‘the book’ I thought subconsciously, my feet moving briskly to the place that felt like home. The nudging feeling in my chest remained. It reminded me that I needed to let something out. The sound of my heartbeat became so loud, my steps weakening, my eyelids were making an attempt to go down but I forced them open, trudging forward. I fall down to my knees crawling.
“Diana!” I called with heaved breath, the sound of foot steps making its way to my direction.
“Move her hands” Diana said hurriedly to her daughter.
“Mam, where are we taking her?” Zia asked frightened.
“Just do as I say” Diana said, helping my other hand on her shoulder while I dragged my feet.
“It’s going to be okay” she soothe.I cringe at the smell of smoke that came from the little container Zia was holding. She directed the smoke to my side with her hands.
“What’s that for?” I ask immediately.
“My mother asked me…”
“It’s going to ease off the tension and the nudging for a while” Diana interrupted. I looked at the place we were in, different from dark moon. My hands subconsciously went to my hair.
‘white’“Umm… How did we get here?” I asked, wondering why I laid on the floor in the middle of nowhere and why my hair was white. I looked around again and then my stare landed on Zia. I was about to say something before she interrupted.
“It’s okay, my mother explained everything to me. I won’t tell anyone, Larissa doesn’t know” she explained immediately, not batting an eyelash.
“We’ve crossed the barrier, no one will catch anything and the warriors on duty has already been taken care of,”
“Thanks Diana and also you Zia, it really means a lot to me”
“Now run along Maya, you don’t have much time,”
I ran my hands through my hair, removing the rubber band that kept them together. I started off jogging before I started running, letting my feet lead me. The cool breeze make the wobbling sound in my ears. I look up to the sky and smiled before I continued running, thinking of how good everything was going to feel. I trip and fall, standing up from the ground, I wipe my face and dust my dress with my hands.
“Too bad you’re going to go” I said out to no one in particular.
I stood before the tree that stood tall and in no time, I was in all fours.
‘I can’t possibly remember the last time I roamed this freely’ I thought, running through the open space.
