New Zealand.
A country in Oceania, to the east of Australia.
After the commotion in the kitchen, I left with Roux who walked calmly next to where I was. It felt odd and I was slightly anxious with Roux who stood next to me.
“It’s going to be okay Maya” He said, feeling how tensed I was.
“As far as I’m here, no one would hurt you”
“I’m feeling all good now” I eased, letting my hands fall loose by my side.
“Are you done packing?” I asked, unsure of what to say. My gaze slowly met Roux who looked calm. I wonder what was going on in his mind now. He turned, his brown orbs meeting mine, a slight smile plastered on his face. I turn to look forward immediately, leaving him amused.
“And would it be a problem if I’m not” He asked, his gaze burning down in my direction.
“You know, it’s rude to stare too much if not your eyeballs would fall off” I said avoiding the question he threw back at me.
“Says the one who was doing the exact same thing few moments ago”
I didn’t even know there was the cheesy and cheerful part of Roux. We never really held any conversation and even if we did it didn’t always end up well.
“Well, I was only looking towards the window…”
“What an amazing way to put it. I must say Miss Maya, you’re really good at lying. Acting would really suit you”
He said amused. I turned to look at him while he did the same and it felt as if someone had smashed tomato paste on my cheeks.
“You look slightly red there Maya” he teased.
“I just remembered something embarrassing” he turned to look at me with one of his eye brows raised.
“Like when you called me hot?” He asked, throwing me off balance while I turned redder. I suddenly turned mute walking by his side praying silently in my head so he wouldn’t try to tease me again.
“Umm… Well, that was just a slip of the tongue”
“I must say, what a lovely tongue you have. It would be definitely fun watching you have another slip” He cornered, twisting my words to his own taste.
I didn’t know what else to say before I decided to switch topics.
“By what time do we leave?”
I asked
“We leave now Maya, the issue is urgent and needs to be taken care of” He explained.
“But why in New Zealand, it could be held here either way” I asked intrigued.
“New Zealand is the safest for now as no threat has been reported there. It would be held in the council there with most of the alphas present and other high standing people”
“It seems fair enough given that people there are very hospitable. The reason we’re going, is it… “
“Maya!” He said alarmed yet his voice was calm.
“That’ll be enough for now. I I’ll explain everything once we’re there. We need to act with caution” he said discreetly while I nodded my head.
“Go arrange for your things and meet me outside” He said before he left.
Back in my room, I emptied my wardrobe, looking for moderate attire, consisting mostly of long skirts and suitable blouse, gowns and a couple of jeans.
Packing them up in my bag, I straightened the skirt that I had changed into. I knotted my hair, leaving some parts to fall freely.
Before I could even think about leaving the room, someone knocked slightly. Leaving from the position I was in, I took hold of the bag that held my luggages before I straightened my skirt again.
I moved briskly down to the door, to be met with one of omegas, her dark green eyes moved to the direction of her feet once it met mine.
“Good day Miss Maya. The alpha said I should assist with your bags. He’s waiting for you outside, together with Alpha Dylan” she said hurriedly.
“My hands are well capable” I said immediately, ushering for her to leave and she did just that.
Before I could close the door, I caught sight of Aoife who was seated calmly on my bed. I dropped my bag immediately while I moved to where she was.
“Ralia dear” she called softly. I wanted to ask her what she was doing here but before I could utter a word, she packed books, about five and gave to me.
“Read them, I’ll meet you later” she said before she became one with the invisible wind that escaped my window.
I locked my room and after that I went to join Roux and Dylan who were waiting for me outside.
“Luther” Roux commanded and someone came immediately, taking the bag I had on my hands. I entered the backseat of the jeep, together with Roux while Dylan stayed in front.
With the sound that the jeep made while the key was doing its work, we were out in no time. The car was bumpy and unsteady at some point. The area was secluded from the outside world. The trees, rivers and lakes made the area habitable. While most people carried out most of their lives in the pack, it was only a few that ventured to the land of the humans.
“Are we going to use the shortcut” I asked Roux who was seated down calmly and at my question, he turned to look at me.
“Is there a shortcut?” He asked as though I didn’t know what I was saying and before I could even utter another word, he placed his finger on my lips shutting me up.
“I think the person who told you about the shortcut forgot to tell you that it can only be used at certain times, five times in a year. In the month of February, the 29th day, the month of June, on the longest day, the month of July on a full moon, the month of November on a very sunny day and the month of December, on the
31st.”
And as he finished, he removed his finger that was on my lips.
“We’ll make use of a private jet, you don’t have to worry about that,” he said before he relaxed himself on the seat.
I couldn’t help but think of what was going on in his mind, how he was as a child and what his mother was like but before I could dive further to where my imagination took me, I felt a tingling sensation on my ears and before I could even jump or shout, he covered my mouth with his warm hands.
“What did you use on my ears?” I asked baffled at what a kind gentleman he was. He brought his keys, dangling it in front of my face.
“You were gone for a while. What were you thinking about?” He asked, leaning closer to where I was while I shifted but his gaze didn’t leave mine.
“It’s none of your business,” I retorted while I sat upright. He kept looking at me which was disturbing but I didn’t mind it. I kept my gaze the other side, looking outside the window.
“We’ll stop here for now” He said before we left from the car to the restaurant in front of us. He came closer to where I was while Dylan walked ahead of us. Before he whispered in my ears.
“Humans are one fragile creatures” And saying this, he placed his hands in his pocket while I saw the scene that unfolded in front of me. A girl was already lying lifeless on the floor while two men ran who were being chased for what they’ve stolen. The sound of gun shot was heard and immediately, I used both my hands to shield my ears.
In no time, we entered the restaurant while an ambulance already came for the girl who was lying lifeless.
We sat on one of the tables together with Dylan.
“How are things going in white moon?” Roux asked, trying to act natural but what could I say, it was natural in his own sense.
“It’s going smoothly,” he answered with his expression still the same. Few minutes later, the waitress came with what we ordered but she couldn’t keep her eyes still. She kept staring at Dylan like something was wrong. Then it dawned on me why she was staring, it was his hair that made him look out of place and then she turned to look at Roux who had a smug look on his face and before her eyes balls would fall out, he cleared his throat and the waitress disappeared from where we were.
I tried my best in holding my self still so I won’t reveal my true nature.
“You should do something about your hair Dylan” Roux said playful while we ate and no one uttered another word until we were done.
We didn’t waste any more time on chit chat and instead we left the restaurant to continue our journey.
We arrived at the airport in less than fifteen minutes. Without wasting much time there, we entered the private jet that looked really nice in the inside.
I sat close to the window while Roux sat beside me. I sat idly for more than five hours while Roux played with his phone. Before I could think of any other thing, I drifted to sleep, my head resting unconsciously on Roux shoulders.
I was lying on the bed with my eyes open while my mother was by my side. She had a basin with water on her laps. She rested the towel on my face while my gaze on her was really doll.
“I’m I going to die mama?” I asked my mother but she shook her head, looking at me with nothing but concern.
“Nothing would happen to you Li,” she whispered, her warm hands on my face.
“Where is papa?” I asked.
“He has gone to sort things out, he’ll be back very soon”
“Mama!”
“Yes Li”
“I didn’t mean to” I said feeling bad as I had killed someone for the first time on that very day.
“It’s not your fault Li” She said cleaning the tears that fell from my face.
“Why are my so different mama, I didn’t know what came over me. Yara made me really angry. She kept poking me when I told her not to. She laughed and said I’m a witch with bad luck and then I didn’t know when it started to build inside of me. I wanted to do something, I wanted to tell her to stop but I didn’t know when… She… “ I said before I started crying again while my mother pulled me up to her chest.
“It’s okay Li, Mama is here now, Mama would never leave you”
“You promise,”
“Yes my child”
“Maya!” Someone called while I felt the tension on my body. My eye lids were heavy before I struggled to raise them up.
“Are you okay?” He asked and I nodded my head, while I wasn’t fully awake. The voice called yet again and I turned to look at those brown eyes.
“It’s you” I said, pushing myself so I could be more aware of my surroundings.
“I was worried, you were breathing heavily, bad dream?” He asked while I nodded my head.
After I had slept for more than five hours, I took hold of my phone. I didn’t know what to really do with it before I started browsing on some random topics.
We did eat and after some time, about seven hours, we arrived.
“We’re here now,” He said before we left the private jet.
“Where are we meant to stay?” I asked, unsure of where we were going.
“You’ll see” he said while I followed behind.
While we walked through the big walls of this unfamiliar place, I caught of how the building that stood farther from this place was. Well guided. It stood tall and was very big but it looked really old like something that has stood for five centuries. It was quiet and spacious and it had less trees, making it almost impossible to hide. The smell was something that really stirred something in my stomach.
“What is this place?” I asked unsure of where we were.
“The council” He replied with a smug look on his face.
