Roux.
A male given name. The expression on my face changed dramatically. The last person I wanted to see was Roux. I know I owe him a lot of explanations but where do I even start. Axina turned to face me but I didn’t return her gaze.
“you can go,” my brother said in his deep rusky voice.
“Sorry about that Lia,” Dylan apologized.
“It’s okay D, but it would be better if you called me Maya… you know, for security reasons,” I explained.
“Alright!” replied Dylan.
“So… Maya” Axina began to say before I turned to look at her.
“What do we do about your mate, you can’t hide forever and one day he’ll just arrive at your back,”
“Seriously Axina, I don’t know what to do. He’ll be considerate- I guess,” I said out, venting my frustration.
“Just take it easy, you’ll find a way. I know you will,” My brother assured. I turned to face him, feigning a smile to show that I was alright.
“Are we meant to attend the meeting or whatever all the alpha’s are coming for,” Axina blurted, I turned to look at her like she was crazy but she didn’t return my gaze.
“It is not really necessary,” Dylan replied.
“I’ll be going to entertain my guests now. If you need anything, just ask. You can explore is you want, after all, Roux never saw your face. You just need to keep a safe distance. I’m sure he’ll be in the council hall and it’s few metres away, enough for him not to catch your scent,”
“Thanks D,” I sent my gratitude before he left the room, slamming the door at his back. My eyes kept a fixed position at the ceiling while I tried to keep my thoughts firm.
“Maya!” Axina interrupted.
“I’ll be going out for a while. I can’t stay in here all day. Unlike you, I prefer the outdoors, adventures and socializing,” she explained
“Alright, don’t get into any trouble,” I said before Axina left.
I stood up for a while, examining my brother’s room which originally was my father’s. Since he’s no longer the alpha of this pack, everything now belongs to Dylan. I remember the times I had been daddy’s little girl, sitting on his laps as he stroked my hair. I always reported to him whenever Dylan did something stupid.
The day death took him was one that I would never forget for it left a scar in my heart. My father died a year after my mother’s death due to heart break. It’s hard to bear the loss of one’s mate. When a werewolf mate dies, the connection is broken and they feel a sharp pang on their chest. The wolf either dies or turns rogue. It is on rare occasion for a werewolf to be normal after the loss of his/her mate.
I rummaged Dylan’s small book shelf with my eyes. After a lot of consideration, I decided to go out. I walked down the lonely hallway. I still remembered vividly where to go and how to find my way out.
The scent of baked food filled my nostrils. A tall beautiful, blonde haired girl was standing next to the oven, looking at her time.
“Hello!” I said breaking the silence after I had entered the kitchen.
“Hi!” she said back shyly, flickering her long lashes at me and at that moment, I noticed she had dark blue eyes which I’m sure was the main centre of her beauty.
“I’m Maya. It’s okay if we haven’t really met officially but I think the one brief introduction to all the pack members by Alpha Dylan was okay,”
