"Was that...?" Harper and I watched as a body fell through the air.
Had Draco done it? Had he actually killed him? Questions ran through my mind. I couldn't focus. All I could think about what that Draco had actually done it. He had killed Dumbledore.
"I'm sorry Harper." I turned toward my friend and gave him a tight hug. I probably wouldn't see him for a very long time. "Tell Lucille and Astoria I'm sorry. But I have to go."
"Raelyn!" He called after me as I began running back the way I came. I needed to know. I had heard the fighting, I needed to know if the Death Eaters had killed anyone. I also needed to know if Draco had actually killed him.
I raced down the hall. That's when I saw Ginny. She was holding Harry's hand and pulling him along toward the hospital wing. She saw me and beckoned me over.
"Ginny, what happened?" I asked as I followed them toward the hospital wing.
"We got into a fight with the Death Eaters...and Dumbledore's dead." She said.
"Oh..." I tried to make it sound like I hadn't known about the last part. "Is anyone else dead?"
If I'd known they were going to be fighting the Death Eaters I wouldn't have sent them there. I would've tried to do something...I wasn't sure what I would've done definitely but I would've done something. I had willing sent Death Eaters to fight my friends.
"Don't worry, none of us."
"But the Dark Mark — Malfoy said he stepped over a body —" Harry said. He sounded like he was still trying to focus on what was happening. Also...when had he spoken to Draco?
"He stepped over Bill, but it's all right, he's alive."
There was something in her voice, however, that I knew boded ill.
"Are you sure?" Harry asked.
"Of course I'm sure...he's a — a bit of a mess, that's all. Greyback attacked him. Madam Pomfrey says he won't — won't look the same anymore...." Ginny's voice trembled a little. "We don't really know what the aftereffects will be — I mean, Greyback being a werewolf, but not transformed at the time."
I frowned. This was all my fault. I nearly killed another one of her brothers. I should've stayed with Draco. I didn't deserve their protection.
"But the others....There were other bodies on the ground...." Harry said.
"Neville and Professor Flitwick are both hurt, but Madam Pomfrey says they'll be all right. And a Death Eater's dead, he got hit by a Killing Curse that huge blond one was firing off everywhere — Harry, if we hadn't had your Felix potion, I think we'd all have been killed, but everything seemed to just miss us —"
I wanted to vomit. If they hadn't taken that potion they'd all be dead. And it would've been all my fault.
We reached the hospital wing. Pushing open the doors, I saw Neville lying, apparently asleep, in a bed near the door. Ron, Hermione, Luna, Tonks, and Lupin were gathered around another bed near the far end of the ward. At the sound of the doors opening, they all looked up. Hermione ran to Harry and hugged him; Lupin moved forward too, looking anxious.
"Are you all right, Harry?"
"I'm fine. . . . How's Bill?"
Nobody answered. I looked over Harry's shoulder and saw an unrecognizable face lying on Bill's pillow, so badly slashed and ripped that he looked grotesque. Madam Pomfrey was dabbing at his wounds with some harsh-smelling green ointment. I remembered how Snape had mended Draco's Sectumsempra wounds so easily with his wand.
