Snow was swirling against the icy windows once more. Winter was upon us and Christmas was approaching fast. Hagrid had already singlehandedly delivered the usual twelve Christmas trees to the Great Hall; garlands of holly and tinsel had been twisted around the banisters of the stairs; everlasting candles glowed from inside the helmets of suits of armor and great bunches of mistletoe had been hung at intervals along the corridors. Large groups of girls tended to converge underneath the mistletoe bunches every time Harry went past, which caused blockages in the corridors, which annoyed me quite a bit.
It had gotten around school pretty quickly that Ron had started dating Lavender Brown. It had been obviously she had thing for him, but I always assumed he'd go for Hermione. Clearly she did as well considering how upset she had been lately. But I found myself where I was usually.
The Room of Requirements with Draco.
Ginny had been telling me Slughorn was throwing a party, and I couldn't exactly just say no. So I unfortunately had to find a date. I was hoping Draco would go with me. He needed a break from fixing that stupid cabinet.
Draco was doing what he normally did trying to fix the cabinet. "Made any progress?" I asked. He shook his head. I sighed. I would soon have to attempt to kill Dumbledore again, but that was a problem for future me. "You skipped Quidditch practice — again."
He hummed in response giving no acknowledgment to what I was saying.
"Urquhart going to kick us both off the team if you don't show up." I told him, crossing my arms. "He already suspects something. If you don't come back he'll find out."
"I don't care about Quidditch." He said harshly, "I don't have time for a stupid game — neither do you. I have to focus on completing the task."
"You need to take a much needed break Draco." I said, "You spend nearly all your time here." Draco didn't say anything and continued doing what he was doing before.
I sucked in a breath, "I was wondering if you would come with me to Slughorns Christmas party as my date."
"No," He said immediately, I was taken aback. I hadn't expected that answer.
"What! Why not?" I demanded. He scoffed.
"I'm not going to a stupid party when I have better things to do."
"Then who am I supposed to take!" I said annoyed. Why did Draco have to be so difficult.
"Just take that blonde git you always hang out with." I rolled my eyes.
"His name is Harper, he's literally been your roommate for six years, you should know his name." I said. "And I thought you didn't like me to hang out with him."
"I don't care what you do." He said harshly.
"Fine then," I said rudely, "I'll take Harper as my date! Since you seem to care about nothing but this stupid cabinet!" I shouted at him before turning away and making my way towards the door, and slamming it on my way out.
"What do you mean you can't go!"
Harper gave an apologetic smile. "Sorry but I'm busy."
I groaned.
"I'm going to be the only one without a date." I said putting my head in my hands.
"Gibson! Pay attention!" Urquhart shouted at me from above. We were in the middle of Quidditch practice. Draco had decided not to show up once again leaving Urquhart to yell at me for ten minutes, and I was guessing he was still pissed at me.
"Practice should've ended ten minutes ago!" I retaliated "I can see the Hufflepuffs waiting to take the field from here!" Urquhart glared at me as everyone else agreed, and we headed back to the locker room.
