"That's one nasty dislocated shoulder." said Madame Pomfrey as bandaged my injured shoulder up. "To think you could even still play like that..." My injured arm was in a sling for the next 24 hours. She moved over to Draco's bed next to me. "And you young sir, have taken quite the beating." Draco groaned as she applied healing ointments to the cuts and bruises on his face.
"You okay?" he mumbled as soon as Madame Pomfrey had left the room. I nodded silently.
"What you did to Ron was terrible." I start to say.
"It was amusing though." Draco mutteres.
"By insulting the Weasley family and Harry's family? That's low for even you Draco." I say softly finally meeting those cold grey eyes. His breaks the eye contact and stares at the opposite wall. "Knowing you would go that far..hurts Draco." I can see his jaw clench.
"You're only saying that because you fancy Potter!" He shouts a hint of emotion I can't quite place.
"What? I don't-"
"Then why are you all the sudden best friends with him!" He yells standing up and facing me. "I've been watching you. You are always with him and the blood traitors!" I open my mouth, but Draco continues.
"And what's up with the sudden friendship with Granger? Just a few weeks you hated you just like me!" He looks me dead in the eyes. "Last night you skip prefect duties and show up and lie to me about where you've been! Not to mention you get detention with Umbridge and you don't even tell me anything!" I can hear the pain and desperation in his voice. I had completely forgotten I had prefect duties the first night of DA.
"Raelyn, we used to tell each other everything. But now-" He sits back down and buries his head in his hands.
"Draco..I.."
"You know what, I don't care anymore. Continue standing up for worthless blood-traitors and mudbloods. I'm done with this, keep your lies and your secrets." He says standing up in frustration. "I don't care anymore." he sneers before turning away from me and stomping out of the room. I exhaled a shaky breath. Draco had never been this harsh or rude towards me. But deep down I knew he was being genuine and true. My face falls once I realize I've probably just lost my best friend.
The following days were some of the worst. Not only had Harry, Fred and George been banned from Quidditch but Umbridge had made a new decree. She now had authority over all teachers, punishments and basically anything in the entire school. My shoulder injury was now completely healed and I was allowed to play Quidditch once more. The worst part of it was that Draco refused to talk, look or even be near me. Making our prefect duties really awkward.
In happier news Harper and Lucille seemed more inseparable than ever. I was happy that he had finally gotten over his crush on me and moved on to someone who he really deserved. But with Lucille and Harper now doing almost everything together my only friend to hang out with now was Astoria. As we made our to the Great Hall we noticed a familiar giant at the teacher table. Hagrid's reappearance at the staff table at breakfast was not greeted by enthusiasm from all students.
Some, like Fred, George and Lee, roared with delight and sprinted up the aisle between the Gryffindor and Hufflepuff tables to wring Hagrid's enormous hand; others, like Parvati and Lavender, exchanged gloomy looks and shook their heads. I knew that many of them preferred Professor Grubbly-Planks lessons, and the worst of it was that a very small, unbiased part of me knew that they had good reason: Grubbly-Plank's idea of an interesting class was not one where there was a risk that somebody might have their head ripped off.
"How much you wanna bet that Umbridge will show up at class?" I say looking at Hagrid.
"Please, that's a guarantee." She responded as we took our seats.
