November 25, 2021 - Busan
It had been a few weeks since Jeongguk had the difficult conversation with his dads about moving to Seoul. His bags were packed, his tickets were booked and his medical history was transferred to senior nephrologist Dr. Jung Hoseok at the Asian Medical Center, the best one in the city.
His dads spent a few days being emotional but now that the news had settled, both seemed to have accepted it and were low-key excited albeit nervous. It was almost December and he would be spending Christmas away from home but as he saw it, it was the first holiday that his dads will be spending together just focusing on each other. So it's a win in Jeongguk's eyes!
November 25th, 2021 - Busan Airport
The goodbye at the airport was not without tears and his Appa fussing over him trying to dust invisible dust from his sweater and flatten his hair. He was such a mother hen while his dad was struggling to hold his tears. They hugged each other for longer than necessary and when the time for boarding approached, Jeongguk promised to call every week. That was the least he could do.
The flight to Seoul was uneventful and quick, made easy by airport meet and assist so Jeongguk didn't face any issues and soon he was standing in front of his brand new apartment complex. He adjusted the medium sized backpack on his back and entered what would be his home for the foreseeable future.
Jeongguk fell in love with the place. It was spacious with minimal furniture, a compact but well equipped kitchen and a comfortable living room welcomed him. Dropping his backpack on the couch, he went to explore the rest of the place.
Pictures didn't do it justice. That was for sure! It was decorated minimalistic and the walls were hues of purple, greens and yellows.. he felt calm and composed.
There were four bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Two rooms and two baths on the ground floor and two upstairs which honestly he didn't need. It's not as if he could climb up the stairs all the time. It would take him forever to catch his breath assuming he didn't die on the way!
There was a small indoor gym with a treadmill and a few weights. He used to be a gym junkie but now he was happy if he could get just a little 20 minute walk maybe once a week. All in all the place looked great.
Jeongguk could see himself being really cozy and comfortable here. The owner had recently bought the place from a prominent family from Daegu and put it up on rent promptly since he didn't live in Korea. Lucky for Jeongguk that Seokjin came across this place as soon as it was put up!
Relaxing for a little while and taking a quick shower, Jeongguk decided to check the security system around the place. He didn't have much to do since the housekeeper, cook and the nurse would drop by tomorrow. He also had his first appointment with Dr. Jung in the afternoon.
He walked out of the apartment and down the elevator. Going around and checking the intercom facility for each apartment, he made a little small talk with the night guard. Behind the security desk he noticed a series of letterboxes and went straight for his own apartment, Apartment 19 C which he knew would be empty...but oh well, he was bored.
He took the keys from the guard and was surprised to see that the letterbox in fact was not empty. It had a few magazine subscriptions, coupons cutouts and what looked like letters. 19 to be exact. Maybe the previous owner forgot to check the letterbox before vacating the place, he concluded.
He collected all of them and went back to his apartment. Settling comfortably on the couch in the living room, he started going through everything. The magazines were old and mainly related to sports and cars. The coupons were expired so he threw them aside and what finally caught his attention was the neat cursive handwriting on the letters.
