November 28th, 2021 - Seoul- Jeongguk's residence

The next day arrived with Jeongguk being very, very well rested. Not only did he not wake up during the night, he realized he had woken up in the same position he had slept in. He didn't remember the last time he got such good sleep!

Smiling to himself for the first time in years, he woke up and got through his morning routine. He heard the cook and the housekeeper go about their business outside the room and was shocked because he had never slept in. Not in the last 3 years at least. Not sure what was the cause of it, but evidently happy, he made his way to the kitchen to have his breakfast.

Today was his first day of home dialysis this week and honestly, Jeongguk was freaking out. He had never had one by himself and now as the time was nearing, he was questioning his decision of leaving his dads behind.

He flinched a bit when he heard the doorbell ring signaling the arrival of the nurse to set it up for him. Right on time. Breathing deeply a few times, he opened the door and welcomed her.

She was a woman probably in her fifties with kind eyes and a soft face. She had a strong motherly vibe about her and Jeongguk felt a little grateful for that. He was extremely nervous and scared.

Making small talk with Mrs. Choi was literal torture for Jeongguk since all he could focus on was the pounding of his heart as they moved towards the spare room to set up the machine and get his dialysis done.

By the time everything was ready and Mrs. Choi was gesturing for him to sit in the chair, Jeongguk could feel his ears ringing. His hands were trembling at an alarming rate and his breathing was heavy and labored. So much so that he felt as if he was on the verge of hyperventilating.

Carefully and with more effort than he thought was needed, Jeongguk settled in the chair as Mrs. Choi started connecting the machine to his fistula. He sat frozen dreading the pain that was awaiting him and he regretted his decision of going through this alone. The thought that he had to go through this harrowing experience 3 times every week made him feel the depression right to his core.

Just as the first sting of pain ran up his arm, signaling the beginning of his dialysis, Jeongguk remembered Taehyung. For some reason, in this time of great fear and pain, his brain sought relief in the one person he could relate to.

Taehyung was also going through pain alone. He started writing at the beginning of 2014 and the last letter was dated 2020 which means Taehyung had written continuously for almost seven years. He did not give up even though it was probably hard for him to keep going.

If he can hold on, you can too, Jeongguk...

You can read his next letter, just get through this and you will be able to talk to him...

For reasons unknown, Jeongguk simply knew that if Taehyung could hear his thoughts and fears about this, he would understand what Jeongguk was going through. And with these thoughts, he braved the pain of his session holding on to the comfort of the letters of the boy that was in a way a stranger to him, but closer than most!

As promised, Jeongguk read another few of Taehyung's letters after his session. He wasn't surprised that each one was full of pain and longing for his lost lover although he was happy to know that Taehyung had managed to start school again. But the last letter from 2014 was just painful to read.

But the last letter from 2014 was just painful to read
