August 7th, 2022 - Seoul - Asian Medical Center

Jeongguk was almost ready to head out. He had changed into his comfortable jeans and shirt and finally was out of that stupid hospital gown that made him feel depressed every time he looked at it. But he had to wear it since he was made to stay in the hospital for as long as was needed as per Dr. Jung.

Even though he was fine and had taken his dialysis as per plan thanks to his dad's insistence, his EGC kept coming back abnormal and that was why he was still in the hospital for 7 days now. Thankfully the one taken last night and this morning had come back fine and he was all set to head home.

His dad was still turning a deaf ear to all his pleas of stopping the treatment but in all this time he had at least managed to convince his Appa. It was a shocker for him because he always thought it would be his Appa who would need more convincing than his Dad. In any case, he had at least one of them on his side along with Dr. Jung who, in his words, always respects his patient's decision no matter what his personal views on the matter are.

His Dad had tried to get the good doctor on his side to help change Jeongguk's mind but Dr. Jung had straight up refused saying only the patient knows the true amount of suffering they undergo and it is harsh to expect them to bear it for the sake of family. Jeongguk was eternally grateful to the man for his support but his Dad was still against the idea.

He didn't blame him, he was, after all, his son. He still did not understand how his Appa supported his decision so quickly. The day after he sent the letter, his Appa just came up, kissed his cheek and smiled through his tears as he declared his support. He didn't explain his reasons nor did Jeongguk ask for them. His Dad however, was still salty with his Appa and hasn't managed to speak more than a few sentences with either of them in this past week.

He had spent all his time speaking with Dr. Jung, brainstorming alternative treatment options and ways to ease Jeongguk's discomfort with dialysis. He had also visited a few officials who govern the transplant decisions in the hope that he may be able to sway/bribe one of them to get Jeongguk on the top of the list without much luck. All in all, his Dad was stressed to the point of physical harm and Jeongguk thought it's best if he gave the man some time and space to come to terms with it on his own. The idea being that once they're home and his dad is a bit more relaxed, he would be more open to understanding Jeongguk's reasons.

And so he had stopped all conversations of discontinuing the treatment and cooperated with his dialysis enjoying these days with his Appa which made it, well not easy, but not completely terrible either. In any case, he had Taehyung and his memories that he reminisced quite often... rather all the time, even zoning out most of the time. Not that it bothered him... That was the only way for him to not lose his shit completely. Because no matter what, he was, after all, human and the threat of impending death was shaking him from within, unaffected by how well he pretended that it did not!

It would be easy once he's home so he could read Taehyung's letters to help him be strong through this. And finally he was allowed to leave this hospital. He was going to be back here soon but for now he had had enough.

His dad was speaking with Dr. Jung in the large seating area in the room, discussing all the precautions and what not of his treatment which was such a waste of time while his Appa just sat there stoically, more of a physical support for his dad.. Jeongguk let them have the conversation though, whatever helps them I guess...

Putting on his jacket, he picked up his phone to place a call to his cook but his attention was caught in some commotion outside his room that stopped Dr. Jung as well from whatever he was saying.
