February 3rd, 2022 - Seoul - Taehyung's residence
The next morning Taehyung woke up quite early with his heart, mind and soul jumping in happiness. He remembered J's letter and read it once again before he got out of bed. It was crazy how some of the words were touching Taehyung's heart to the point that he was giddy and also a little dizzy.
He had never thought that he'd be a simpering mess just by reading something written by someone, a stranger at that. It was literally as if J was wooing him and he couldn't help but swoon at J's charm.
Taehyung now knew a few details about the mysterious J who was, unbeknownst to him, very well on the way to capture his heart. But he was still unaware of the true extent of the effect J's letters were having on him. It had not escaped his notice, how J was now addressing him as Tae. He liked that to be honest. It was as if J was trying to pave a path for himself devoid of Jae-Hyun's shadow.
He blushed as he thought of J calling him with endearments that he had solely lacked in his life. He hadn't realized the power in these small gestures that had his mood uplifting high enough to touch the sky.
As the warmth of the heater calmed the harsh effect of the cold weather in the room, Taehyung couldn't stop the tears that threatened to leave his eyes. How many nights had he frozen in the cold apartment begging the universe for some warmth. His life had been devoid of warmth from all sides. Who would have thought that he would now, not only be physically warm but also feel it in his heart. J, without a doubt, felt like his person.
Pushing the blanket off him, Taehyung sat up on the bed and slipped on his slippers. He brushed his fingers on the beautiful rose resting beside the bed as he moved to his study table. As usual, placing the letter back in its envelope he immediately started to pen down his reply. There was no more waiting for Taehyung, not that he realized. To him, it is only polite to reply.
Just like J had sent him a gift, albeit with the excuse of his birthday, Taehyung also felt a strong need to send something so that J would also keep thinking of him when he saw his gift. And he had just the thing in mind.

February 4th, 2022 - Seoul - Jeongguk's residence
It was a loud night at the Jeon residence as the TV blared with music of the Xbox on which Jin tried his level best to match the dance steps. He was very good and it wasn't surprising when he beat Namjoon for the third time that night.
Jeongguk watched as Namjoon pouted and tried to convince Jin that he was cheating, which wasn't working even though the said man was quite literally shit-faced drunk.
It was late evening and Jeongguk was having a really good time. Seokjin and Namjoon had come over for dinner tonight and it was a great change. Every time he met the two, he had enjoyed himself enough to forget about everything else. He couldn't drink of course, or compete on the Xbox but it was fun to watch the two men challenge and fight each other. If not for the touches and kisses here and there, you would think they hate each other, such was the fierceness of the competition.
It had been two days since he had sent Taehyung his reply and a heater. He had apologized because honestly, he knew he was crossing a line there. Not only was he pretending to be Jae-Hyun, but now he was sending gifts to Taehyung who was thinking that all of this was from his ex-boyfriend.
A slight worry had nagged him at the back of his mind thinking what if Taehyung thinks Jae-Hyun is trying to court him and maybe get back together?
What if Taehyung asks to meet him?
There was no way Jeongguk could meet him in person. It was a given that the letters would stop which he cannot allow to happen at any cost. Not only that, but Taehyung would hate him for real because this was a betrayal.
Sweet and simple!
It's understandable. He would hate himself too if he found out some stranger was impersonating his ex who he was still not over!
It was a complicated situation and Jeongguk didn't think he was strong enough to face the consequences of his actions. Few weeks ago, it had felt like a harmless thing to write to someone who he knew was hurting so much, it had felt as if he was the one doing Taehyung a favor by writing to him. Now, he knows very well that Taehyung's letters are nothing short of a miracle. One he needed desperately in order to hold on to his pathetic excuse of a life.
Well, what's done is done and it doesn't make sense to worry about this now. So he consoled himself that he would cross that bridge when it's time. For now, he will enjoy this thing he has with Taehyung and hope against hope that it continues for a long time to come!
He was brought out of his thoughts when the couple fell back on the couches, sweaty and exhausted from their dance off, Jin being the clear winner.
"Oh my God, that was lit!"
It honestly surprised Jeongguk how Jin could be so energetic all of the time even when he was literally struggling to suck in air.
"I swear... But you do know that I let you win right?" Namjoon asked his boyfriend with raised eyebrows.
"L-let me? Really?"
"Yeah, seriously. I didn't want you sulking the rest of the night. So.. I let you" Namjoon finished in a matter of fact tone.
Jin stared at his boyfriend for a minute before he decided to speak.
"I'm going to puke on you. Before this night is over. And you know what, I'm going to stuff my face with this garlic dip so that the smell will never leave you!!!"
Making that promise, Jin reached out for the dip and stuffed a big spoonful of it into his mouth.
Namjoon looked like he would puke watching that gross scene and Jeongguk was rather fond of the very expensive rug right in the middle of the trajectory should the puke make an entrance. Before it got out of hand, he took the dip away from Jin and passed him the whole tissue box. Let's just say being as drunk as he was, he didn't really have a good aim when he tried to stuff his mouth.
The night continued with more drinking and dancing and when the couple started making out on his couch, Jeongguk knew it was time to call it a night. Not risking sending the two very drunk and very horny men home by themselves, Jeongguk offered the guest room on the first floor, thanking his stars that all the rooms in the house were sound proof.
He never ever wants to hear the unapologetic moans coming out of his friends' mouths again as they made their way upstairs, lips still attacking each other.
Making sure that his friends reached the guest bedroom okay and once he heard their door shut, Jeongguk switched off all the lights and entered his own bedroom.
He quickly finished his night routine and changed into some comfortable pajamas before slipping into the warm sheets. If all went well, he should have a letter by tomorrow.
Assuming Taehyung was not upset with him.
Assuming he didn't feel put down about the fact that he couldn't afford one himself.
Assuming that he didn't think Jeongguk was too out of line to continue writing to him.
Knowing there wasn't any point in worrying about it anymore, Jeongguk tried to sleep. And after many weeks, he faced a night that wasn't one with a sweet dreamless sleep.
