The last period of the day went by like a breeze. Not many teachers needed assistance so for the most part she worked on schoolwork.

When the last bell of the day rang, Judy walked out to her bike on the rack. And Nancy wasn't too far behind her. It was pretty routine for Judy to come home with Nancy after school since they had most of the same classes to study for.

Mrs. Wheeler would come to the school, Judy would put her bike in the trunk, and they would go. Tonight was a Chemistry study night and Nancy had made an extensive pile of flashcards for the two of them to study. By the time they had both gotten through the stack without a wrong answer, it was dark and Mrs. Wheeler was knocking on Nancy's bedroom door.

"Nance?" She called as she opened Nancy's door just a crack. "Dinner's ready."

"Okay, I'll be down in just a second," Nancy said as she started to put back her things on her desk, Judy sitting on her bed, watching the ordeal between Mother and daughter.

"Well Nancy, aren't you going to ask Judy?" said Mrs. Wheeler now with the door fully open.

"Ask her what?" Nancy asked.

"Do you want to have dinner with us, Judy?" Mrs. Wheeler asks with her sympathetic smile. She always made that face when Judy was around. And she always says she looks just like her mother, not noticing the twitch in Judy's eye that the statement made happen.

"I was just leaving so..." Judy said, getting up to fix her book bag.

"Oh, come on, have dinner with us?" Mrs. Wheeler pleaded.

Judy looked at Nancy with a 'is that okay?' look on her face. Nancy just shrugged, turning the corner of her lips down a little. "Sure."

"Great. I'll set you a place."

After Mrs. Wheeler left the room, Nancy and Judy made their way down the stairs, seeing tonight's dinner on the table. Judy set her bookbag at the bottom of the stairs then looked at Nancy. "I'm just gonna call my dad," she said, earning an 'okay' from Nancy.

Dialing the number, Judy waits for three rings. "Hawkins Police Station," said a lady on the phone.

"Hi, Flo. It's Judy," the girl replied, playing with the phone cord.

"Hey, sweety, whatcha' need?"

"Can you tell my dad I'm having dinner with the Wheelers?" Judy asked, thinking about when Flo would tell him and he wouldn't care.

"Sure, sweety. Do you need him to pick you up?"

"No. I have my bike."

"Alright. Well, be careful getting home."

"Thanks," Judy smiled into the phone, putting it back up. As Judy walked into the dining room at the front of the house, she saw Nancy and Mike on one side of the table, Mrs. Wheeler and Holly on the other, and Mr. Wheeler at the opposite head of the table. It was strange where they placed her given that she wasn't the head of the household. Maybe they just didn't have the same home setup.
