With the keys in her hands, Judy moved over to Steve who hadn't moved an inch since Billy smashed down on him. He was out cold and laid limp and heavy. Judy was strong, but not dead weight strong. She groaned as she lifted Steve off the ground by his shoulders. Having to let go for a second, Judy stared at the kids in front of her. The look on her face was more than displeased as they watched her struggle.
"A little help here, assholes," Judy said, waiting for someone to help her. Mike grabbed one of Steve's legs and Lucas grabbed the other. With the three of them holding onto Steve, they shuffled their way to the Camaro still parked in the front yard.
With the door open and the passenger seat leaned forward, Judy found the only way to get Steve into the backseat was by sliding in herself and pulling him through the door. Only she didn't expect him to slide in so easily and she pinned between the seat and his body.
"Alright, help me get out from underneath him," she said, gasping for air underneath the weight of Steve. But the weight never left and Mike just sat in the back seat with her, pulling on Steve's jacket to make him sit upright. With Judy even realizing until it was too late, Max snatched the car keys from Judy's hands. Sitting in the front seat, she was about to stick them in the ignition.
"No, no, no, Max, now way. I'm driving," Judy said, hurrying to get the limp body next to her to stop falling to the side and get in the front seat herself.
"You said it yourself, you're stuck," Max said, turned completely around in the driver's seat.
"Max!" Judy yelled, astonished at the girl's attitude and confidence in her driving capabilities. "If you start this car, I'm gonna kick your ass!"
Max looked at her blankly, then shrugged her shoulders with a smug look on her face, "Okay."
Slamming the keys into the ignition and turning on the engine, Max barely waited for Lucas and Dustin to sit next to her in the front seat. She'd already turned out of the driveway before Judy could put a seatbelt around Steve's waist.
Max had only been driving for a few minutes, with the help of Lucas and the map that Bob made of Hawkins, when Steve's eyes started to flutter open. Judy had been trying to hold his head in place the entire ride but it was difficult given who was driving. On the other side of Steve, Mike sat with a can of gasoline in his lap and with each bump in the road, the gas sloshed around.
"Nancy?" Steve said groggily, looking at the boy at his side. Mike looked at him disgusted, and so did Judy. But when Steve turned his head towards the girl, his confused expression turned into a painful smile. "Judy," he said, gently.
"What happened?"
Judy felt for the boy who was black and blue underneath the layer of red across his face. His voice was rough and slurred from the trance he just woke up from.
"Billy Hargrove beat the shit out of you," Judy started monotone. "Now a thirteen year old is driving a sports car so we can set fire to alien tunnels beneath our town."
