Once Steve, Judy and Nancy made Erica's flashlight flicker with their presence in the real world, Erica spoke back to them after using her flashlight to communicate with Lucas and Max.

"Okay, the lovebirds have copied. Max is moving into phase two: distracting Vecna."

"So far, so smooth," Nancy said, standing the closest to the jungle gym.

"Yeah, we're not even at the hard part yet," Steve replied reluctantly, watching their surroundings.

Judy only investigated the house closely. "Take the bait, you son of a bitch. Take the bait."

Judy's mind started running in worst-case scenarios. She couldn't help it, not after seeing what would happen to Hawkins if they failed. If they failed, Max would die. Any and everyone would. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw it all over again. The gaping hole in downtown Hawkins. Everyone she cared about dead. She wouldn't let it happen. She couldn't.

Before too long, Erica got back to them. "Okay, she's in. Initiate phase three."

Nancy talked to Dustin and Eddie through the walkie. "She's in. Move on to phase three."

"Copying that. Initiating phase three," Dustin replied quickly.

Nancy, Steve and Judy tucked themselves under the playground, doing their best to avoid touching any of the vines that were near them. Whenever a familiar rock song began to echo through the Upside Down.

"Let's go," Nancy said whenever the bats had all swarmed in the direction of the trailer park. She moved out from underneath the playground, heading toward the Creel house, and both Steve and Judy followed closely behind.

The trio walked inside of the house, Steve being the first to enter. Inside of the Creel house, there were, somehow, even more vines that roiled and squelched, making it even more difficult to navigate. It was almost like the vines were waiting for them there.

"Oh shit," Steve whispered, shining his flashlight over the entrance of the house. "That's not good."

He hesitated a moment before jumping through the hall, landing on spots with the least amount of vine coverage.

For the most part, they had been following what Steve was doing, who was doing what he could to navigate them through the house. He had made it all the way to the stairs without issue, skipping one or two or sometimes even three steps to avoid a vine.

He had to help the two girls with doing that, pulling them up the rest of the way to the top. Steve pulled Judy's gun out of her bag, handing it to her. Right before they could begin their assent to the attic, an earthquake sent the three of them back, and they grabbed onto each other for support. Once they'd caught their balance, they heard something coming up the stairs.

One of the vines.

Judy looked down to find one of them wrapping around her ankle, pulling her down the staircase slightly as more vines wrapped around her. Before anyone could move, Judy was already pinned to the wall by multiple vines.
