Castle Byers. El whispered again. Will.
Joyce gasped, gripping onto El's arm as she breathed heavily. "You tell him... tell him I'm coming. Mom is coming."
"Your mom... she's coming for you," El spoke out.
"Hurry," a muttering and weak voice came through a walkie talkie. Will's voice.
Joyce looked up to walkie, and gasped again. "Okay. Listen, you tell him to... to stay where he is. We're coming. We're coming, okay? We're coming, honey. Just... just hold on a little longer."
A low growl came out and El began to heave in her breath, almost hyperventilating. The growling rumbled louder through the small device, and El screamed, "Will!"
The radio cut out again with El ripping off the mask she wore looking around frantically. Seeing Joyce she held on tight.
"Okay, okay. I've got you. It's okay. I got you, honey. You did so good," Joyce said, holding onto El and cuddling her head. The small girl only wept in Joyce's arms. She just did so much for this group and she probably didn't even know it.
Judy sat across the gymnasium as Dustin, Mike, Lucas and El sat together on the bleachers. She watched them looking sullen. El held herself in her arms and her lips were so blue even Judy could see it from far away. Pushing up from her own seat on the bleachers, Judy walked into the lockers behind the gymnasium. This school was where she started swimming, she spent every moment she could swimming. It was like second nature walking through the locker room to grab a towel.
Walking in front of Eleven, she knelt down, placing the towel in her lap. "You should stay warm."
El looked at her blankly, not saying anything. Judy just unfolded the towel and swung it around Els back, pulling the front together to make a snug fit. With a tight lipped smile, Judy stood up again and El watched as she did so, seemingly fascinated now.
As Judy walked towards the gym exit, she placed her hand on top of Dustin's head, shaking it a little. Dustin only let a tiny giggle and a quiet 'hey'. There wasn't much emotion being exchanged now. Two things had been confirmed, whether the group really wanted them to be.
Barb was dead. Confirmed.
And Will was alive, but in grave danger. Confirmed.
After fighting it for so long, what do you do with that information when you finally have it? Do you grieve all over again, or do you seek something different? Nancy had made up her mind.
"Hey," Judy said, as she sat against the wall beside Nancy. She had her knees to her chest and lost look in her eyes. She didn't say 'hey' back.
"We have to go back to the station."
Judy looked at Nancy, nearly shocked at what she said. She wasn't sure what would actually be the first words out of Nancys mouth, but it definitely wasn't that.
"What?" Judy stammered.
"Your dad and Joyce are just walking in there like bait. That thing is still in there. And we can't just sit here and let it get them, too. We can't." Nancy couldn't hold the couple of tears in her eyes from falling.
Judy sighed, understanding the feeling. "You still wanna try it out?"
"I wanna finish what we started."
"You know, this whole time I've been really skeptical." Judy started. Speaking was the only logical way of wrapping her mind around what had happened. "What if Barb really did run away? What if Will really did fall in the quarry? What if that thing in the picture was really just a thing in a picture? But then I saw it, and it saw me and I knew... nothing was safe if that thing was still alive." Judy looked at Nancy again, matching the fire in her eyes and the anger in her heart. "Let's kill this bitch."
(short chapter but I wanted to leave off on Judy being the strong badass she is)
