Steve, Mike, Max, Dustin and Lucas all stay behind, watching as El and Hopper, Joyce, Nancy, Jonathan and Will speed out of the driveway. Everyone is nervous and scared, feeling helpless. All they could do is wait.
And so they did, in different ways. Mike paced back and forth across the living room as Max and Lucas worked to get the broken glass of the floor. Dustin and Steve worked to get the demogorgon in the living room into the fridge. Dustin claimed it was a scientific artifact that needed preservation. But Judy on the couch staring aimlessly at the shattered window. She thought about her father and little sister – what they could be doing right now – if they were even still alive to do anything.
Jud didn't pay much attention to the rest of the house, but Lucas was starting to get annoyed by Mike's pacing. "Mike – would you please stop it, already? You're just making it worse."
"You weren't in there. Okay, Lucas? That lab is swarming with hundreds of those demodogs," Mike said frantically.
"The chief will take care of her," Lucas said, calmly.
"Like she needs protection," Max added.
On the other side of the house, Steve slammed the refrigerator door shut, and waltz into the living room, grabbing Judy's attention from the couch.
"Dude, listen," he started, with one hand on his hip and the other waving around as he spoke. "If a coach calls a play in a game, bottom line, you execute it."
"Okay, first of all, this isn't a stupid sports game and second, we're not even in the game, we're benched," Mike yelled, annoyed.
"My point is..." Steve paused, trying to find what his point was. "Right. We're benched. So, yeah. There's nothing we can do."
"Well... that's not entirely true," Dustin said, standing next to Steve. All eyes were on him now. "I mean, the demodogs have a hive mind. They ran from the bus because they were called away, so if we get their attention-"
"Maybe we can draw them away from the lab," Max completed Dustin's plan.
"Yeah, and then we'll all die," Steve said like it was obvious.
"Yeah, okay, we know what papa goose has to think..." said Mike annoyed, looking at Steve, who only questioned where papa goose came from. But then Mike looked at Judy who had been staring at the five people in front of her blankly. "What does mother goose have to say?"
Everyone watched as she stood up slowly, hanging onto every word she was about to speak. "What's the worst that could happen?" she said, calmly, causing each of the kids to smile in excitement. But Steve stood there stunned.
"Well now I feel betrayed. How could you go against me like this?" he said in a comical manner with a hand on his chest dramatically.
"I can't just sit around and wait," Judy said, straight to the point. "Not while my family is putting themselves in danger."
