Today Judy biked home and started her homework right away. It was only until the phone started ringing that Judy wasn't going through her notes on auto-pilot.

"Hopper's House," Judy answered the phone.

"Judy?" Said the other voice on the phone, quietly.

"Hi, Nancy," Judy sighed, leaning against the wall. She didn't want to stay mad at Nancy, but she wanted to defend those who couldn't defend themselves. Something she had in common with her dad when he was a young cop.

"Hi. Are you coming tonight?" Nancy asked.

"Where?"

"To... Steve's." Judy could tell Nancy already knew her answer, but wanted to see if she could change her mind somewhere. "Please?"

"Isn't Barb going with you already?" Judy asked, knowing that Barb would definitely be going.

"I haven't asked her, but I want you to come too."

"No, I'm not going," Judy said, rolling her eyes.

"Come on, Judy. Please," Nancy persisted, the desperation apparent.

"No, Nancy. I don't like any of them. I'm not going to hang out with them, even if you and Barb are there."

"Ugh, fine. I'll see you tomorrow," Nancy huffed. Judy could hear her slam the phone down before the dial tone began.

Judy only let out a groan, turning to the refrigerator. She looked through it for something to eat. The leftovers she had for Hopper were untouched. How sweet.

It was about 11 o'clock by now, Judy had finished her homework and dinner, and she was just looking through her latest Teen Beat Magazine. If Judy had her radio any higher she wouldn't have heard the door open.

Judy got up from her bed to greet her father, only to see Sandra, his "lady friend". As she walked through the door in front of Hopper she had a dumb smile on her face, but once she saw Judy at the edge of the hallway, her face fell. Judy looked to her dad, who was now also looking at her, with a straight face.

When Hopper brought someone over, it was a bad day. And if it was a bad day, Judy turned a blind eye. That's all she could do really.

Without saying a word, Judy made her way to her room, closing the door, and turning up her radio. Judy laid in bed awake with the radio on for what seemed like hours, only to wake up to her morning alarm and the radio off.

Judy woke up with a heavy feeling weighing down on her. She assumed it was the guilt she felt towards Nancy. They never fought or had awkward conversations. They were too simple for that, but Judy wasn't seeing that from Nancy anymore. It made Judy feel strange. Change had a way of proving itself as a bad thing in her family. It made high castles crumble to the ground.

This weird feeling stuck with Judy all the way into first period, so much so that she barely noticed Nancy walking into class and sitting behind her. It was the tap on her shoulder that brought her back to the outside world.
