"What was that?" Nancy asked Judy, who sat in her passenger seat.

"What?"

"With Steve."

"That's between me and him," Judy answered begrudgingly.

"Maybe, but you put me in the middle of it."

"Sorry," Judy said, realizing she'd done the same thing that she got so angry at Nancy for doing to her. "I'm not angry at you, just him."

"Do you want to talk about it?"

"No. But let's talk about what you think we're going to find here," Judy said as Nancy put the car into park in front of the library.

As the two of them got out of the car to head into the library, Steve and Dustin waited inside his car for Max, outside of Ms. Kelley's house.

"Okay," Steve said. "She's in."

"I'm missing collarbones, not eyes."

Steve didn't reply, only watching the house carefully.

"So..." Dustin started. "We gonna talk about... it?"

"Huh?" Steve finally turned to look at Dustin. "Sorry, talk about what?"

Dustin gave him an unconvinced look. "Your temporary insanity earlier today when you basically threw yourself at Nance, in front of Judy?"

"Okay, first off, that's not what happened, okay?"

"Pretty sure that's what happened," Dustin countered. "It was public. There were a lot of witnesses. Judy included."

"Are... Are you implying I still have a thing for Nance?"

"No. I'm not implying."

"You're-" Steve looked at Dustin for a moment longer, seeing him give a 'I know' kind of look. "She told you about it, didn't she?" He sighed, rubbing his eyes. "Of course she did."

"You know she won't say it because she thinks you'll leave too, right?" Dustin asked, watching his best friend so stressed out.

"What?"

"She doesn't say 'I love you' anymore. 'Cause she said it to her dad that night, and he- he never came back. She's scared to tell you because you might not come back either."

"She said that last night?"

"Not last night... a couple weeks ago. And then this whole thing with Nancy-"

"There is nothing going on with Nancy!" Steve yelled, and Dustin yelled back just as loud, "That's not what it looks like!"

"I just don't wanna find her in the morning with her eyes sucked out of the front of her skull by this Vecna creep," Steve got quiet again, looking out the window at the house they were parked in front of. "I don't wanna talk about it."
