CHAPTER 31: The Unraveling of Choices of Fate

I observed quietly on Angel as she is silently eating beside me. She never even stared directly at Jastine and lately, Jastine seems to care too much for her. Did something happen between this two? I gently shook my head and focused on eating. Pagkatapos naming kumain, we hurriedly go to our respective lockers to change for our P.E. outfits.

Magkasabay kaming apat na naglakad papunta sa locker room and upon arriving, naunang magbihis si Ken and Harold kaya nagkaroon ako nang pagkakataon na kausapin si Jastine. "Lately, I've noticed that you seems too overprotective" I started the conversation. He stop doing his thing at tumingin sa akin. "I'm always overprotective" he said to me. "Alam mo Jastine, you should consider what Lloren would feel about your actions toward Angel---.." he cut me off.

"For her Angel is just a cousin of mine" he replied. "But you know to yourself that she's not" natahimik siya dahil sa sinabi ko. "She's my guardian angel and I have the rights to protect her also since she's mine from the start" he said while his tieng his shoe laces. "I'm ... I'm just worried for you Jastine and I'm also thinking about what would Lloren and Angel will feel...." He again cut me off. "What would be the problem with that Paulo?" He said and now he's standing in front of me.

"The problem is that your starting to like her" he didn't even move nor speak and this time I know that I caught him. Jastine likes Angel but he's just afraid to admit it. "Wh-what.. are you talking... about" he denied in a stuttering sound. Magsasalita na sana ako ng lumabas mula sa comfort room sina Ken at Harold. They caught us talking about something seriously kaya agad silang nagtanong sa aming dalawa.

"Did you fought?" tanong ni Harold sabay lapag ng kaniyang rubber shoes sa upuan. "No, it's nothing" I quickly responded at agad naman na tumalikod sa akin si Jastine. "We're just talking about....about academics" I added to convince Ken and Harold. Na convince naman sila kaya nagbuntong hininga kaagad ako. "Are you both done? Punta na tayo ng gym" Ken said and we all agreed.

Pagdating namin sa gym ay nakita kaagad namin ang mga kaklase namin. They're preparing themselves for the activity today. In the corner I saw Angel seating all by herself. Lloren is still not here kaya agad akong lumapit kay Angel. When she saw me, she hurriedly smiled at me. I smiled at her back. "Why sitting alone?" I asked and sit beside her. "Hmmm... nagpapahinga lang ako" she gently replied. I grab the water bottle from my back pack and gave it to her. "Keep this, you will need this later" I said and she gladly accepted the water bottle that I gave her. "Maraming salamat Paulo" she said while smiling at me.

"JASTINE!" napalingon kami ni Angel kay Lloren na kasalukuyang tumatakbo papunta sa direksiyon ni Jastine. "Be careful" Jastine said to Lloren as Lloren approaches Jastine's arms. I glance at Angel. She's smiling but it seems heavy. "Do you know any sports?" I changed the subject to distract her from them. Angel gently shook her head. "Hindi, hindi pa ako nakapaglaro ng kahit ano" she said innocently. "Huwag kang mag-alala, nandito ako para tulungan ka---" bago paman ako makatapos ng pagsasalita ay biglang tumayo si Angel.

Nagulat ako dahil sa biglaan niyang pagtayo. "Si Jastine..." She said and then she suddenly run as fast as she could. Napatayo ako and I want to run after her but she suddenly run towards Jastine and Lloren and pushed them both. Biglang may parte ng bubong na bumagsak sa direksiyon nina Angel kaya agad akong napatakbo sa kanila. "All students get out!" Sigaw ko habang nagtatakbo papalapit sa kanila.

Jastine hurriedly stood up when he realized that he almost died but Angel saved him by pushing him away from the direction of the fall. "ANGEL!" I shouted as I tried to look for her. "Angel!" Jastine also shouted as he tried to look for her also. "Aghhh.. my waist" Lloren said as she try to lift her body. With all my strength, I lift the metal part of the roof and I saw Angel lying under it. "ANGEL!" I shouted as I push the roof away from her. Tinulungan ako ni Jastine. Ken and Harold ran also towards us and help lift the roof.

After several of lifting, we successful removed the roof metal. Tumakbo kaagad si Jastine kay Angel and grab her. "Angel..." he said as he scan his eyes to her. When he saw that Angel is severely bleeding, he hurriedly stood up and ran outside the gym. "Get out here hurry!" I said to both Ken and Harold and they both ran outside the gym. Lumapit ako kay Lloren and I helped her. We safely ran outside the gym and realizing na nasugatan si Lloren I decided to take her to the clinic.

In the clinic I saw Jastine and Angel. Angel is lying down in the bed and the school nurse is giving her a first aid. Pinahega ko si Lloren sa kama and I called the other nurse to treat her wound. "Where's Jastine?" Lloren asked as she gained a little conscious from the shock. "He's right beside us" I replied and when she saw Jastine sitting beside Angel's side nagpupumilit siyang tumayo. "I need him" she said pero pinigilan siya ng nurse sa pagtayo. "We need to treat your wound Miss" the nurse said as she prepared the medicines.

"Don't worry, I'm right here" I said to Lloren dahil sa totoo lang napakaliit naman talaga ng sugat ni Lloren. She was just shocked because of what happened minutes ago. After treating Lloren, the nurse said that she can go. "No, I need Jastine to go with me" she insisted kaya wala akong nagawa kaya tumayo ako at tinawag ko si Jastine. Currently, Angel received the treatment and her wounds are fully bandaged.

"Jastine" I gently called him. He look at me and in the corner of my eyes I saw Jastine holding Angel's hands. "Lloren called you" I said pero parang hindi niya gustong bitawan si Angel. Alalang-alala siya sa kalagayan ni Angel. I cleared my throat and speak again, "Jastine, your girlfriend needed you" I stressed the word 'girlfriend' and after hearing that binitawan niya ang kamay ni Angel at pumunta kay Lloren.

The nurse advised to take Lloren home to get some rest kaya Jastine will be taking Lloren home. Naiwan kaming dalawa ni Angel sa clinic. I am just sitting beside her when she slowly opened her eyes. "Angel..." unti-unti niyang iniangat ang kaniyang katawan. "Asan si Jastine? Okay lang ba siya?" agad niyang tanong sa akin. I tapped her shoulders and said, "Yes, he's totally okay. You don't need to worry. You should rest" I slowly push her back to bed.

"Masaya ako na nailigtas ko siya" she said and she let out a sigh. "How do you know that the roof will broke down?" I asked her. She smiled and replied, "Hindi ko inaakalang makakaramdam pa rin ako kapag may paparating na masamang pangyayari kay Jastine" she said and I didn't understand what she mean. She can sense bad events?

I didn't give a serious thinking about what she said. Instead, tumayo ako and I close the curtains. Nagulat siya when I did that. "It's to protect you" I said and I sat down and wait for her wounds to heal magically as she always did. "How long does your wound usually takes to heal?" I asked her out of curiosity. Yumuko siya and mahinang sumagot, "Hindi ko na kayang pagalingin ang sarili ko Paulo" she said in a soft voice. What did she mean? Did she lost her powers?

"Dahil ba nandito ka sa mundo namin, nawawalan ng bisa ang kapangyarihan mo?" She didn't respond to my question. Nanatili siyang nakayuko habang nakatingin sa kaniyang mga sugat sa binti at kamay. "Tell me....." I said habang hinawakan ko siya sa kaniyang balikat. She looked at me, quite shocked. "Tell me what to do to bring you back home" mahina siyang umiling.

"If I'll bring you back home, you'll be healed right? You'll gain back your powers right?" Umiling na naman siya. "Hindi...hindi siya ganoon kadali Paulo" she said in a dispirited voice. "Tutulungan kita Angel, no matter what it is I'll helped you get back home" She slowly removed my hands from her shoulders.

"Kailangan patayin si Jastine..." she said in a low voice na nagpatigil sa akin. Did I hear it right? "Anong ibig mong sabihin?" I said trying to confirm what she just said right now.

"Para malabalik ako sa mundo ko, kailangan patayin si Jastine" I think at this moment everything stops for a minute. I'm processing everything that she just said. Now I fully understand why she decided to get a home, to be away from Jastine because she doesn't want to hurt Jastine.

She's protecting Jastine.
