The next morning, Kalani and the girls were back in the simulation room for their midterms. "Alright, ladies. In a few minutes, we'll begin. You'll go one at a time— with the exception of Bloom and Kalani. Due to your inexperience with magic, I think it'd be best if you two went together."
Musa, Flora and Kalani were all quivering as they mulled over the possibilities of what could happen during their exams. "I'm just so nervous." Muttered Musa as she gripped onto Flora's forearm.
"Yeah, I hope neither of us go first." Said Kalani as she rubbed at her eyes. Last night's training session was beyond brutal. Aside from learning how to grapple her magic better, she also learned that Helia's skill lied in captures, which he managed to teach her how to do with her magic.
With the glove that he wore on his right hand, he was able to fire a series of ropes from the knuckles of the glove that could be used to detain creatures. But even though he was considered to be a top prodigy back at Red fountain, it was clear that his heart wasn't in it.
As Kalani continued to ponder over her brief meeting with the other specialist, her friends conversed about their hopes for the midterm. But she was quickly pulled from her thoughts when Palladium turned back around.
"Alright then. Let's get the ball rolling. Which one of you ladies wants to go first?" Silence. It was obvious that everyone was scared— even Stella, who was perfectly prepared to go first moments ago.
"Stella, I thought you said you wanted to go first to get this over with?" Musa questioned as she pointed an accusatory finger at the princess.
"I changed my mind." She responded, much to Palladiums disappointment. "Just as I thought. I'll pick the volunteer." He eyes scanned over his class, until he settled on one redhead and her brunette best friend.
"Bloom and Kalani, which of the test do you choose?" Wary, the two girls stayed still, a bit flustered as neither of them expected that they would go first. Quietly, the two deliberated over their choices until they agreed on one.
"Um, the second option, Sir. We want to work on a damaged environment." Bloom stammered; her face beet red as she was stared down by the professor.
"Great choice, girls." Whispered Flora as she leant down to avoid Palladium's line of sight, before returning back to her original spot in between Stella and Musa.
"Come on, then. You can choose the environment. What would you like?" Kalani and Bloom approached the screen and looked over their options. "We were thinking of a desolate environment. The most desolate possible." Palladium clicked a few buttons on the panels, beeps and other various noises being the only sound in the room.
"Ok, there's this place called Domino. It's the saddest, most miserable place in the magical dimension. Have you ever heard of Domino?" They shook their heads.
"No. But we're sure it'll be perfect." Kalani said as they watched him code Domino to the simulation room.
"Now, as soon as you enter the simulation room, Domino will appear around you. Are you ready?"
"Yes. Uh, I brought a few ingredients for potions and stuff. Can I take them with us?" Bloom asked as she held up a blue backpack. "Sure. Take whatever you want." Palladium walked ahead of them to the simulation rooms door.
When he pushed it open, a bright light flooded the room. "There you go. The test will last thirty minutes. I'll be in the computer room controlling everything. Now do your best." Just as the two girls prepared to walk off, they heard shouts of encouragement from their friends.
"Good luck!"
"Be careful!"
"Take care, alright?"
