Grief was a very fickle thing. No one was exempt from it, and it surely didn't discriminate against who it held in its despairing clutches. Perhaps that was why it came for people that Isadora held near and dear to her.
First, it took her parents— whom she never got to know— under the guise of the Ancestral Witches. Then, it took Andrea, the very woman that raised her and acted as her mother after the demise of the Metis royal family and drove an icicle straight through her heart.
But for whatever reason, none of them hurt more than the love her life leaving. And on top of it all, she couldn't even be mad at him for leaving her when he lost all of his teammates and was dealt to deal with the fact that he felt responsible for their deaths all on his own.
Especially not when she was struck with the same feelings of guilt ever since the death of Andrea, which wouldn't have happened had she simply handed over her magic instead of stubbornly hanging on to it only to have it stripped away from her in the end.
And so, for what felt like an eternity, Isadora remained in the comforts of her bed, where she cried her eyes out until she either cried herself out or she cried to the point where she fell asleep.
Unbeknownst to Isadora, however, her sobs were heard by everyone in her shared apartment, including her brother, who was constantly coming over to visit his girlfriend, Flora, while simultaneously checking up on his sister.
Currently, Lucian was sitting on the foot of Flora's bed while she rested her head in his lap, trying her hardest to focus on anything other the sobs that constantly wracked her friend's body.
But no matter what she tried; nothing could pull her attention from the cries that reverberated through the thin walls of Isadora's room, not even the soothing feeling of her boyfriend running his fingers through her hair.
And clearly, Lucian could tell that something was on her mind, and he knew just what it was.
"Do you remember Musa mentioning a boy named Helia?" He asked, looking down at Flora with a curious yet somber look.
Flora nodded her head before moving to sit up on her own bed. "But we've never met him and after that one interaction with him in the forest, she never really mentioned him ever again," she responded, confused as to why he'd mention that.
Lucian took a deep breath before trying to continue, much to his own dismay. "Well, just a few hours before the Trix began to terrorize the Magic Dimension, Helia was sent on a mission with six other guys to find a specific monster and gather information about its behavior."
"When they landed, Helia devised a plan that meant that they would split off into two separate groups. Four people would stay behind and keep any unwanted creatures away while Helia and two others went looking for the monster."
"But the administration's analyst made a mistake, instead of the monster being a juvenile like they were led to believe, the monster was a fully grown adult that attacked the camp while they were away."
"When they returned, Helia and the others found their dead bodies and the other two members went off looking for the monster, but Helia stayed behind. And the last two members of his team never returned."
Flora quickly caught on to what he was gearing up to say and she instantly realized that this was a tough story to tell with the tears welling up in his eyes and the slight tremor in his voice, prompting Flora to carefully grasp the hand closest to her.
"He couldn't stay in the Magic Dimension dealing with the fact that his teammates deaths were his fault when he managed to walk away without so much as a single scratch."
