Alastor took a close look at the cradle where the thing was lying.
Clauneck seemed to be more active than in previous days. His huge, curious red eyes were observing everything around him. The little hands moved in search of discovering a world full of new and interesting things. The rosy cheeks of an unusual feeling that I could relate to enthusiasm puffed out every time he emitted his typical gurgles that always ended with his little face smeared with drool.
He rolled his eyes. Cleaning the infant's face with a cloth and then burning it between his hands. Something that had elicited a sound like laughter from Clauneck.
Definitely, he didn't understand the thing.
The only thing he did understand was that to his misfortune, this one seemed to adopt more of the king of hell's genes as time went on. And he had realized this when he had taken the infant out of the changing ritual to see his true form: the hair was still blond and seemed intended to take the same shape as the older Magne's, except for those three unique red locks that stood out. His extremely pale skin had acquired those characteristic circular blushes on his cheeks. His eyes were still red but with the peculiar vertical line in them and now, tiny horns were growing on each side of his head, almost imperceptible to the sight of anyone else who wasn't detailed enough to notice them at a glance.
He sighed heavily, setting up the ritual again. Again the thing had skin as pale as a blank canvas, jet hair devoid of any hint of possible horns and normal red eyes. However, he had to admit that that little effort had caused another twinge of pain in the damned chest wound.
Ignoring the infant, he walked over to the mirror to annoyingly check its condition. The seams had given way again and blood was threatening to ooze out as the throbbing progressed.
Damn it. He couldn't go out in that state but he also couldn't pass up the opportunity to participate in another one of the overlords meetings again, least of all when he had been absent from them for quite some time.
He cursed himself internally again.
The wound had to close.
Again...

"I appreciate you taking the trouble to look after Clauneck" He spoke politely while adopting his usual elegant pose "The truth is that I find it a bit improper to leave you with this kind of burden but I'm afraid the outside duties I haven't taken care of deserve to be taken care of as soon as possible"
Charlie nodded effusively, giving him a smile along with Angel who was again holding the now calmer baby. Husk from his place in the canteen wondered himself how far that calmness would go because of course, the infant didn't know boundaries. So he just shrugged his shoulders. Maybe he should prepare a few drinks for everyone to get ready before the chaos came in the form of crying.
"You know it's no problem for us to take care of him," the princess assured him, taking his hands "Just go do your business! You'll see that when you come back everything will be more than fine. I promise, Al."Alastor gave her a gesture in the form of genuine thanks, though inwardly he thought he couldn't care less if anything happened to the thing while he was away. If anything, that would turn out better, so he could avoid continuing to procrastinate on the same idea that circulated through his head every day when he remembered this one's existence.
"I know it will" Was the last thing he mentioned along with a small static sound before firmly taking his cane and briefcase to withdraw from the hotel without looking back. Maybe, just maybe, that way he could avoid feeling that twinge in his chest that he associated with the wound that a few hours ago he had been stitching without any hope that this time it would stay in place.
