Alastor kept his body rigid, feeling Lucifer's voice in the background, surely it continued to demand more answers that he would not be able to answer even if he wanted to.
Even though panic was consuming him with speed, he mentally wondered if the king of hell did not hear Clauneck's increasing cry. The room where he had left him was not so far from where they were and he had always been attentive to the child, so he didn't think that just because of this things would change course and....
No. It wasn't that.
No one but him could hear Clauneck's lament.
Just as no one else could glimpse the image of Lilith in her long, fitted dress, her hair waving gracefully in the shadows and that luminous sinister smile she left in full view amidst all the darkness that danced around her. Of course, she was in his mind. It never ceased to be.
[Alastor, dear. You've gotten yourself into big trouble... ]
He did not answer. He knew there was no way he could do that. Although he didn't think it was necessary either considering that she could read his every thought. However, it was his only sense of self that led him to formulate a sentence in his subconscious.
[Leave him alone.]
Clear, short and concise.
If it weren't for the fact that his prey instinct was still tormenting him, maybe he would have said it out loud and with a tone that wasn't pure hysteria. However, it wasn't even worth imagining what might have been. Lilith just continued to smile at him as Clauneck's cries became deafening.
Shit shit shit shit shit shit.
He needed someone to go see him. Whoever.
[ Continue your discussion with Lucifer ]
Alastor watched Lilith with a wry yet flinty look on his face. Of course, that had been an order. But how did she think he was going to continue with a bloody talk from which he would only draw bad conclusions? It was more than clear that his position was not the best to stand up to Lucifer. So what did she expect him to do?
The woman's smile curved downward, and with it the tightening of the chain around his neck became more intense. He longed to be able to open his mouth to seek some oxygen but was still aware that the fallen angel's eyes were on him. So he just kept his typical smile as he felt the blood pooling in his newly opened wound.
Luckily, he still had his back to Lucifer but that was also a disadvantage as he couldn't tell how he was reacting to his sudden silence or if he was still spouting threats. The only thing him eardrums could perceive was the crying of the child. A cry that was beginning to make him desperate to the point of wanting to run out into the room to know that he was okay.
That was all he needed to know.
No, that had to be it.
Clauneck had to be crying because he was hungry again...yes, just that. But he felt that as much as he wanted to psych himself up to that idea, something was telling him that things were going wrong.
He had to hurry up and carry out the orders. That was all he had left.
[What am I supposed to do? Tell him the truth and stand by and watch him tear us apart? ]
He knew that the tone he used was not the right one to address her. However, he never allowed himself to speak to her in fear. It was enough that Lilith knew the havoc he wreaked on his body just by feeling her presence and recalling certain situations.
The chains were pulled tightly, and a choking sound came unhesitatingly from between his lips but he did not allow himself to move from his place.
[ Don't you dare say it ]
