The sounds of waves crashing make Adam's eyes open wide. For miles all he can see is a glittery beach, shining yellow with the reflection of an unseen ray of light. The water splashes up the shoreline, and drops fall on his body. They tingle as they hit his skin, his pale skin.
Reaching a hand to his head, he finds no demon horns, or ram ears upon it. Rather, his shaggy gray hair that he remembers fondly. This, this is a dream, isn't it? His memories of Heaven have been skewed since he fell, many blurs drifting by as though his punishment was the loss of clarity in them.
And yet, why does he not recognize this? This scenario, sitting alone on an endless beach, relaxing. It's unfamiliar, he's never come close to anything like this memory since he died. A noise comes from beside him, and he realizes he's not alone like he thought. Turning his head toward the sound, a beautiful, slender body rests in a chair next to him.
They're not quite clear to see, but he can make out the faint golden hair on their head. It's faded, but he observes they have fair skin, much lighter than his. He wants so badly to reach out and touch them, to reach that memory that's been locked away.
Right. This is a memory. He desperately wants this unknown entity to be Lucifer, to be sitting by his side as they capture this view. But it's not. Confusion fills his head, unsure of the next best guess. If he's remembering being with this person, then who could they be?
Clouds form on the horizon, and the light shining upon the two fades. The water stills, as if his question has devastating consequences. But he needs to know the truth. As if answering his call, a voice enters his head, one that comes from the illusionary person themself. It turns his blood cold, finally recognizing the woman before him.
"Adam." Lilith. She has no right to say his name anymore. Not since she abandoned him so long ago. But... she's here . In Heaven! With him? But, why? He wants to know more, there's still memories he hasn't found! But her voice doesn't answer him anymore. Instead, a new one is calling his name.
"Adam!"
It's much more familiar, the name of the person is on the tip of his tongue. As he struggles to recall who it is, Lilith's body fades from his sight. Heaven disappears, and with it, his chances of getting answers.
"Adam! Wake up!"
Wake up? Why does he need to wake up? Lucifer! Lucifer's calling him, that's it! Something must be wrong then. He does need to wake up!
The dream fades, leaving Adam in a haze of gray fuzz. Even in his memories, he still thinks of Lucifer. And the man is calling him to wake up, of all things. Closing his eyes, tears fall from his face. The dizziness from the dream disappears, and before he wakes, he has one last harrowing thought.
'If Lilith was in Heaven with me, then who let her in?'
Adam jolts awake, there's a hand on his shoulder, vigorously shaking him. When his eyes focus, he sees Lucifer over him, panic on his face. But as the devil sees him come to, it washes into worry.
"Are you okay, my dear? You were shaking in your sleep. Nightmare?" The care in his voice is deep, and it calms Adam to hear how much the fallen angel adores him.
"Y-yeah. I'm okay now." It's not a total lie. But the demon can't shake the feeling that he shouldn't tell him about the dream. The guilt he felt at the end, he knows telling Luci would only cause more pain and suffering. He needs to find answers first, and then he can spill it.
