"Mahib...." My voice sounds so distant from me as if I was speaking from a deep well.
He raises his hand, stopping me and my heart breaks into million pieces.
Mahib never stopped me.
I take a step back, the warm air from the cliff sifting through my face, making the sweat clinging on my forehead turn cold.
"Do you..." I wring my hands together.
"Remember everything?" His voice was hoarse. "Yes."
There was an invisible wall between us from the past six months. Mahib was there but he wasn't truly there. But now, the wall has been broken down.
I could truly see Mahib like I did before.
So why do I feel dread coiling in my gut when I see his eyes. Those eyes which know the truth and not some concealed lies.
Those eyes which has hate for me and not warmth like he did from the past six months.
"Mahib..." Tears fall down my eyes. "Say something, please."
"Say what Manar?" He faces me and I am taken aback by his hardened eyes like no joy exists between those dark blue eyes. "Should I talk about how you left me to die nine years ago?"
I flinch at his words, tears falling down my eyes.
"Or should I talk about how you came back for what? To mock me?" His voice breaks out.
"I told you why I came back." I say biting back a sob. "That wasn't a lie."
"You didn't lie, I know that." He smiles bitterly. "But even with no memories of the past, you somehow managed to make me feel like I could have a future like a normal man. Do you know why I used to run away from the concept of marriage? Because of you, Manar Fareed. You made marriage, love, a joke."
A sob slips past my lips. "I am sorry—"
He turns his back from me, placing his hands on his ears. "Don't. Don't say those words." When he looks at me, tears cling his eyes. "Do you have any idea how your voice, your words had haunt me? I thought I was going insane hearing voices in my head."
I grip my dress in fists. I couldn't say anything. I was in no position.
"The worst part is that I fell in love with you, again." Tears fall down his eyes. "And you betrayed me again."
"How.." I sob. "How could I have told you the truth? Anytime you mentioned something about our past, you faced an episode. I value your life more than anything."
"Then why did you lead this on?" He gestures between us.
"I tried to break off things," I cry. "Many times, it was you who was persistent. Do you really think I would want to repeat what had happened in the past?"
