25 JULY 2006. ISTANBUL, TURKEY.
"What are you thinking, Mahib?"
The late summer winds sift through her short hairs, making her hair flutter along the wind, I look at her face, memorising every detail of her.
Don't know when will I get to see her again.
The setting sun casts a beautiful orange glow on her face as she continues to look over the view, her chin resting on her folded knees.
We both came on our regular spot by the cliff as a week end habit of hanging out but this time, it's for the last time.
Manar wanted to soak in the last of the day by visiting our favorite spot as she is leaving for Pakistan tomorrow.
So I lay down beside her, with the intent of watching the beautiful afternoon clouds but who or what could compete against her beauty?
She glances at me, her mismatched eyes gleaming under the sun. "Should I be concerned?"
"No." I sigh and look at the shadows of the trees. "Mahnoor."
"Huh?" She blinks, confused. "Who is Mahnoor?"
I chuckle at the jealousy laced in her tone. "The name of our future daughter."
Her eyebrows dip in confusion. "Future—?" Her eyes widen, she picks up her bag and smacks it down on my chest. "Mahib!"
"Ouch! What?" I laugh, holding my chest. "I was just thinking about our future."
"You are so shameless!" She huffs, trying to cover the redding of her cheeks.
My laugh dies down slowly as the weight of the situation changes and the pain of her departure settles in my chest again.
"I will miss you."
She glances at me, her eyes softening. "We will meet again, Inshallah."
"We will but..." I sit up. "I am...I feel something is going to happen."
"Mahib." She sighs, turning towards me. "I am scared too, and I..." she moves her hairs away from her face. "Let's not think negative, okay? Inshallah everything would be okay and we will come back here years later again with our family."
A picture paints in my mind. Her as my wife, and the family we would make. A smile forms on my face. I would want that, I would work for that. "Inshallah."
Manar looks at the cliff with a smile. "Mahib?"
"Yes?"
"We will have a beautiful future, won't we?"
I smiled looking at the clouds. "The most beautiful one."
