"How did you found me in the park?"
I look at the rear view mirror, Manar sat in the middle with Noor in her arms, she kept snoring peacefully and Manar kept patting her back.
"I was driving by that area when I caught the sight of you in that park because of its low fencing." I look at her reflection in the mirror, "I didn't wanted to disturb you but when I saw a man troubling you, I thought something was wrong."
I felt rage rarely. Very rarely. Like one time, Saboor accidentally deleted a whole process file of a project on my laptop but I wasn't angry. Although I had to work the whole night to make another report for the meeting next day, I didn't yell at my sister or even got frustrated.
My mom always tells me I have a very calm nature. I don't get angry easily.
But when I saw that man troubling Manar, I was ready to knock him down. And she had tears in her eyes. He made her cry. He made Manar cry.
That was enough for that low thump of anger to course in my veins.
"Was your brother troubling you?"
Her eyes meet mine in the mirror. "No."
My hold on the steering wheel tightens. "If anyone troubles you or Noor even the slightest, you tell me, okay?"
I felt her eyes on me before she spoke after a pause, "Mr. Mahib, why would you fight for us? We are not your responsibility."
"I..." I look at the road ahead. "I was just thinking about your safety."
"Thank you for your concern but we are fine." Her tone was curt.
She is building her walls again. And I hate it when she does it.
"You can give me a call if you see it fair." I offer, turning the car to the right to enter the mall parking.
She doesn't reply.
After parking the car, I get out of the car and open the door for her, opening the boot, I take out the stroller, which looked like it has seen better days.
"I think I'll carry her in my arms." Manar says.
I pause my hand on the boot door. "Why? Your arms might hurt."
She shakes her head. "Noor barely weighs anything. Besides, she is about to wake up, and when she wakes up, she doesn't enjoys being in a cramped space."
"Alright." I nod and keep the stroller back in the boot. "The elevator is right over there, let's go."
She wraps a small blanket around Noor and hikes her bag on her shoulder.
"Can I help you with the bag?" I offer.
"It's fine, I can manage."
I don't force her further and walk with her towards the elevator.
