*** Alasor's POV ***
As I got back to my room and turned on the lamp next to my bed, my shadow popped with a curious gaze. "So? Did you find it?" It asked.
"Find what?" I untied my bow tie and started putting away my nice suit.
"Don't play dumb. What I've been feeling, did you find it?"
"Yeah, I did okay?" I said impatiently, it knew the answer so why was it asking. "That's why I said what I said before I left."
"Then why such a sour look?" I looked at my self in the mirror, it was true my smile remained but the look in my eyes was uncomfortable at best. I thought for a moment trying to figure out my emotions. For one I was sad to leave our date, it was nice and I was enjoying my self. For once in a life time and a century I felt not only relaxed and entertained but seen. Two, I felt upset on your behalf, I had found out at least two instances where you were deeply betrayed. And that culminated in a strange feeling of anxiety.
"I worry that I'm making a huge mistake." I admitted, "Not only because I may do something that could hurt my own situation like I almost did before, but because I don't want to add on to her heartbreak by my own actions." I knew my nature. I was never a kind man. One doesn't become the feared Radio Demon by being the straight talk fellow, I was a schemer and a manipulator. Betraying someone for my own gains was entirely within my repertoire. But the prospect of potentially being put in a spot where I could do that to you made my entire body feel like it was being stabbed with icepicks.
"Then don't." The shadow shrugged. "Just put her first and make sure you don't do anything to betray her, do what Ma taught you."
"Don't bring mother into this!" I spat out with a bit of anger.
"I am not. I'm just saying if you treat her the way Ma taught you rather than what life taught you, we wont have a problem. And I've said this before, I'll say it again, unlike the rest of the hotel that almost let you die for their own causes she noticed something was wrong and went out of her way to help. Y/n is worth it."
I am not sure how many other people knew exactly how hard of a time it is arguing with yourself, especially when that self was only regurgitating everything you already know and are feeling. But its hard.
*** Lucifer's POV ***
"DAD!" I heard Charlie's voice from downstairs of the manor, I wasn't expecting her here but I didn't mind. Except for the fact that she seemed really angry. "We really need to talk."
"Yes sweetie I'm coming!" I run down stairs to see her by the entrance with folded arms and a really frustrated looking face. "What's the matter dear? Did something happen at the hotel?"
"Did..? Did something.... are you???" She stammered like she couldn't believe what I was saying, "DId sOmEtHinG hApPen aT tHe hOtEL" She mocked, "Yeah dad, you didn't tell me Y/n can't fucking leave. She is a prisoner there."
"Oh uh..." That caught me by surprise.
"Oh and to top it off Alastor seems to have sunk his claws into her for some fucking reason, he bailed on Lulu to spend time with her, and now yesterday he turned the entire top hotel floor into a street so he I guess... I don't know let her have a night out of sorts. He must be buttering her up for some fucking deal and we had no idea."
"Okay um well..." I tried to reason, "First of all, she doesn't own her soul, she can't make any major deals anyways."
"WHAT?!?!?" That didn't seem to help as Charlie only grew more agitated, "What do you mean she doesn't own her soul?"
"I... ugh." I shook my head. This was not a conversation I wanted to have but it looked like I wasn't getting out of it now. I took my hat off and put it on a hanger near me and motioned for Charlie to come inside. She obliged but was looking at me suspiciously the whole time. We sat down at he very empty feeling dining table before I continued. "Paimon has her soul at the moment. She... wasn't in the best spot when I last saw her so I asked him to let her stay at your hotel, convincing him that he wont have to worry about her safety while here so less resources for him to use. I'm sorry I should have told you. But the reason she doesn't own her soul is partially my fault as I suggested her to make a soul deal with one of the first overlords of hell for her protection."
"You signed her up to be a prisoner at my hotel! How is that going to look if someone finds out that we are keeping people locked up there?"
"No one has to find out, we just keep it down low and its fine!" I pleaded.
"No dad! You didn't even fucking ask if it was okay. And people do already know! Alastor knows! I already owe him one favor, who knows what he could do with that information."
"What? Wait hold on, did you say you owe Alastor a favor?" I was flabbergasted, I had no idea about this. "How could that have possibly happened?"
"Yeah dad, before the last extermination, Alastor was the only one who knew how to defeat the angels. He gave me the information in exchange for a favor at a time of his choosing where I harm no one."
"Fuck! Charlie! Why the fuck would you agree to that?"
"Don't you take that tone with me when you locked a girl up in my hotel!" She yelled, "And we needed the information, its the only reason we won the fight in the first place."
I withdrew. I knew I wasn't being fair and Charlie was already angry. "Look I am sorry, it was just the best way I could think of getting her out from directly beneath Paimon's thumb. She wasn't doing good."
"And being locked up in a hotel with a manipulative overlord is better? People have to choose to be there Dad!" She kept going.
"Husker and Nifty are there on Alastor's orders and you have no problem with that." I wasn't trying to be accusing, but it was true.
"That's different! He called in favors to help the hotel, and its not like they can't go out and live their lives outside of that. And he didn't hide it!"
"So is he a manipulative bastard or a virtuous friend, which is it? Because you are doing an awful lot of defending him at this point!" Now I was becoming frustrated, and it showed.
"No I! UGH! I am not defending him. But you need to get her out. Have her transferred somewhere else. I won't stand by my hotel being used as a jail." With that she smacked the table and left, slamming the door on her way out. Leaving me with my head in my palms. Did I make mistake in not telling Charlie your situation outright? How poorly Paimon seems to have treated you before? Should I have told her everything from the start? I didn't know. But now I had to figure out what to do with you, I didn't want to just hand you back to Paimon, then it would really be my fault if you were hurt.
I resolved to think about it later, after a stiff drink.
Ultimately I decided to try to find you somewhere else to be, but that proved difficult as my consciousness gnawed with guilt at me, and I found my self procrastinating on it. I also didn't know what to do about the favor Charlie owed Alastor, but my best bet was to confront him about it at some point, I just didn't know when.
Unfortunately for me, that also meant I allowed both to sit long enough until another set of news reached my ears that overtook my priority list at the time.
