I was sitting in the living room of my house, watching the 2004 Phantom of the Opera with Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum.
My knees were tucked to my chest as the Phantom began to sing "Music of the Night", and I felt the familiar chills running down my arms.
Since Ramin was doing a rehearsal for Anastasia, I took the advantage of being alone and decided to fangirl over the Phantom as much as I wanted to.
He was aware that I had been crushing on the character even before I had met him, but I don't think he realized how obsessed I was with Gerard's version.
There was something about his raw, rugged voice that made my heart race every time I heard it, and there was no denying that he was incredibly handsome as well.
I could understand why so many teenage girls loved the movie, even if the critics didn't.
As Gerard lifted Emmy's hand to his face, I felt my heart going impossibly faster, and it made me dizzy even though I was sitting down.
My eyes were so glued to the screen that I didn't even realize there was someone watching me only a few feet away.
When the song ended, I sighed in content and flopped back against the sofa.
"Enjoying the movie, are we?"
I jumped at least five feet in the air at the sound of Ramin's playful voice, and I shrieked involuntarily.
"Don't do that!" I exclaimed, gripping my chest.
"I made a decent amount of noise coming in, Ave," he chuckled. "You were just too caught up in your imagination."
Once the adrenaline wore off, it made way for mortification.
He had caught me red-handed swooning over the Phantom, and my embarrassment was unbearable.
I sat back down on the sofa and covered my face with my hands, my body hot with awkwardness.
Ramin then came over and sat down next to me, placing his hand on my leg.
"I didn't mean to embarrass you," he said softly. "I just assumed that you had heard me, but were ignoring me because of the film."
"Sorry about that," I mumbled.
"Don't be," he replied. "I'm sorry I scared you."
I glanced over at him and smirked weakly.
"Well, you have been the Phantom for years now. I'm sure you've learned some tricks on how to be sneaky."
He gently ran his fingers along my arm.
"I promise I won't do it again."
I patted the top of his hand and said, "Maybe you can announce you're home by singing, 'The Phantom of the Opera is there; inside your mind'."
"That could work," Ramin nodded with a smile. "Although, I think you came up with that so you have an excuse to hear me sing every day."
I shrugged.
"I can neither confirm nor deny."
He chuckled and wrapped his arms around my waist.
"So," he drawled out. "How long have you been crushing on him?"
I paused for a moment while pondering if I should tell him or not, but I eventually opened my mouth and replied, "Since the movie originally came out in 2004."
"Did you ever imagine being swept away by one of us?" Ramin asked, his eyebrow raised playfully. "You have quite a few Phantoms to choose from."
"I mean, what girl doesn't want to be swept away by the Phantom?" I smiled dreamily. "Who would want to go with Raoul?"
He laughed and kissed the side of my head.
"Erik is more charming, I must admit."
I nodded in agreement.
"Yes, he is."
He pulled me into his chest with a smile, and we watched the rest of the film with dorky looks on our faces.
