Run.

That's all I was trying to do as my nightmare increased tenfold, sending me into a panicked frenzy.

I could feel my arms thrashing while I desperately tried to claw myself out, but nothing was working, and I thought I would never wake up from my slumber.

Just as a shadowed monster approached me and raised his hand to deliver the killing blow, I opened my eyes and let out a blood-curdling scream, likely scaring my neighbors below.

My heart was pounding in my chest, and my hair was plastered to my skin like a magnet.

Luckily, I could see that I was back in reality, but it didn't stop the uncontrollable sobs that poured out of me in an instant.

My body was practically vibrating as I shook in fear, and I started to become light-headed due to hyperventilation.

Suddenly, I heard the front door open from a distance, and footsteps came rushing towards the bedroom.

I almost cried out for help when I saw a dark silhouette appear in the doorway, but a familiar, musical voice rang through the room and stopped me:

"Avery, it's me! It's just me."

It took me a moment to process that Ramin was there, but once it clicked, I heaved in a breath and croaked out his name.

He switched on the ceiling light and climbed onto the bed, putting his hands on either side of my face.

"Ave," he said softly. "What happened in here? You scared me half to death."

"I-I'm s-sorry," I stuttered, my lip quivering as tears threatened to break out. "I d-didn't mean t-to."

"Shh," Ramin cooed. "You don't need to apologize, love; I was only concerned about your safety."

I managed a small smile as he brushed my eyes with his thumbs, and I whispered, "Hold me. Please."

He nodded and wrapped his strong, secure arms around my body, pulling me close to his chest.

I then began to shiver as the nightmare came flooding back into my mind, and I gripped onto Ramin tightly.

"It was so scary," I said, my voice shaking in fear. "I thought I was never going to wake back up."

He kissed the top of my head and squeezed me harder, being careful not to hurt me at all.

"Just focus on me," he murmured into my hair. "You're safe now."

"But what if you aren't here?" I fretted. "What if this is all a dream that my mind is making up to give me a false sense of comfort? I don't want to wake up without-"

"Avery, stop," Ramin instructed gently. "Don't get yourself worked up again. I promise I'm here, and I am not going to leave you. Ever."

My head buzzed from a lack of oxygen, but I did my best to focus on the feeling of his arms around me, his beard brushing against my scalp as he kissed my forehead tenderly.

I slowly managed to calm down until my heart was back to resting rate, but I became chilled from the A/C as it hit my damp skin.

"Do you want to get under the covers?" he asked, his voice soft. "You're trembling."

"Yes, please."

Ramin nodded, then got off the bed so that I could lie down.

Once I was settled in, he sat down by my legs and rubbed them in a soothing manner.

"Can you stay?" I whispered.

"Of course," he replied. "I'll be on the living room couch if you need me."

He moved to get up, but I caught his forearm and said, "I want you to lay with me; I'll feel safer that way."

"Are you sure?" Ramin asked. "I'm prone to cuddling with people who need to be comforted."

I smirked at his sweet but joking tone and answered with, "I'd like that very much."

"Alright, but you asked for this."

He then plopped down beside me and got under the blankets as well, wrapping his arms tightly around my waist and kissing my forehead.

"Let me know if any monsters come into your nightmares," he mumbled on my skin. "I will come and defend you. No human or animal will want to face the Phantom when it comes to his Angel's safety."

I smiled to myself and said, "I look forward to seeing you in action, my Opera Ghost."

Ramin chuckled and nuzzled his nose into my hair, putting a spell on me as he hummed "Music of the Night" ever so quietly.

It didn't take long for me to fall asleep after that.
