I was staring out my bedroom window in an anxious daze when Ramin came up and hugged me from behind.
"Avery," he whispered. "Are you okay?"
I quickly turned around in his arms and buried my tear-stained face into his chest.
He stumbled back slightly, but he regained his footing and held me against him.
"Hey, hey," he cooed. "Talk to me. What's wrong?"
The only response that came out of my mouth was a muffled sob, causing my body to lurch forward violently.
Ramin tightened his grip and pressed a soft kiss on the top of my head.
"Do you want to sit on the bed?" he asked.
I gave a weak nod.
He gently moved me onto the bed and wrapped himself around me, keeping us close together.
His warm body was the perfect contrast to my clammy, cold skin, and I leaned back into him tiredly.
Once Ramin was sure I was comfortable, he kissed the back of my neck and rested his chin on my head.
"I've got you now," he whispered soothingly into my ear. "Just calm down as much as you can."
I nodded and distracted myself by stroking his forearms with my shaky hands while he kept his firm hold on me.
I wasn't aware of how much time had passed before I finally had my breathing under control, but when I glanced behind me, Ramin was sound asleep on the bed, his arms still loosely around my waist.
I smiled and placed a soft kiss on his forehead, not wanting to disturb him, then separated from his hold as gently as I could.
I covered him with the blanket and closed the door quietly behind me, smiling tenderly at his peaceful form.
