3 years later
I sat my box and bag onto the sidewalk and knelt down to look at my phone. The bus would be here in twenty minutes. I sighed and locked my phone back up before putting it into my pocket. I can wait, I thought to myself.
I stood back up and looked at the small police station behind me. It had been my home for the past 3 years. When I had arrived, I had immediately felt a weight lift off of my shoulders. Asking for the transfer all that time ago, had been the best decision I had ever made.
Under Captain Greyson's care, I had started just as an unknown person. We had all agreed to keep my background a secret to start off with. Eventually, I did end up telling the others that I worked with, about who I really was, but by that time it didn't matter. They had seen my skills up close and knew that I was trustworthy and honest.
I jumped when a car honked behind me. I whirled around as the blood rushed to my cheeks in embarrassment. A dark colored car was sitting at the curb; the window rolling down slowly.
"I'm so sorry!" Came a voice from inside.
I shook my head and began to pick up my things. "That's ok." I yelled back.
I could wait further down by the bus stop. There was no point in waiting this far away anyway. The car stayed put as I began to walk away.
I heard the door open and then slam close. "Y/N? Where are you going?"
I stopped right where I was. It couldn't be, could it? He was supposed to be gone for another week. I whirled around at the voice and dropped the box I had in my arms.
There he was. He was leaning up against the car with a big grin on his face.
My insides fluttered as he ran a hand through his hair. "Do I really look that different? Or did you just forget about me that fast?"
I dropped the bag and ran over to him. My arms instantly wound around his waist and his arms pulled me in closer to him. The clean scent of mint filled my head.
"Chan?" I leaned back to get a better look at him.
His eyes sparkled and he grinned again at the mention of his own name. "I'm still not used to you saying my name like that."
I pulled away more. "What do you mean, 'like that'." I teased.
He shrugged and then walked over to where I had dropped my stuff and began picking it up. "Just in general I guess."
I rolled my eyes. "Well, that's what you get for leaving just after I got used to saying it on a regular basis."
Then I crossed my arms over my chest. "Speaking of which, aren't you supposed to be gone for another week?"
He popped the trunk of the car and chuckled. "Technically, but I guess 13 weeks of being off the grid is my limit."
He placed my things inside the trunk and closed it again, motioning to the passenger side of the car. We both walked over and he opened it for me.
"You only had one week left." I teased again as I got into the car.
He winked as he shut it behind me. I watched him walk around the front of the car then slide into the driver's side with ease.
"I guess I was just ready to come home." He turned the key and the car started.
I shook my head slightly. "You were supposed to be living on the beach, how could you leave that?"
He shrugged and checked his mirrors before pulling out into the street. "Sure the beach was great, and the surfing was good. I made some great friends as well, but for the last week or so, I just felt like I was ready to come back."
