Adhrit's POV

I and Kriya Di were roaming around the mall, cracking jokes at each other, and remembering the old times.

We kept drifting from shop to shop without really buying anything - just like we used to, when we were younger - making up stories about the mannequins, rating random outfits, arguing over whether eating multiple chocolates is criminal or not. It felt stupid and perfect at the same time.

We were still laughing, when Di suddenly yelped, "Ahhhh!"

My heart lurched. I spun toward her. "What happened, Di?"

She clutched a nearby shelf, as if it was the only thing keeping her upright. "I think my ankle twisted. It hurts, Adi. Like, really hurts."

I dropped to one knee in an instant. "Show me."

She eased her weight onto my shoulder. I slid off her sandal, lifted her foot carefully into my lap, and began to press gently around the joint. The skin felt warm under my fingers, her breath hitched, and she hissed slowly in pain.

"It will be fine.", I murmured, rubbing slow circles gently. "Just a strain. Hold still."

People passed by us with curious glances, a few smiled looking at us. However, my whole focus remained on my sister.

Kriya, being Kriya, tried to act brave, even as her face pinched with pain. "Ugh, it's so annoying.", she huffed. "I just wanted to check that buy-one-get-one earrings sale in local market."

I snorted. "You and your sparkle obsession."

"Bohot bolta hai tu." she muttered - but I caught her smile, when the pain eased a little.

(You speak a lot.)

After a few minutes, when she could put her foot down without wincing hard, I helped her stand. "Let's take an auto. No more walking." My voice was stern this time.

She made a face, but nodded. We hobbled to the exit, flagged an auto, and settled in, the evening lights of the mall sliding past like glitter.

"Don't tell anyone.", Di ordered me strictly, referring to her ankle.

I nodded obediently, knowing very well, how my family overreacts over the smallest things. Besides, she's a doctor, she can treat herself. Who cares?

Soon, we both reached our home, and after washing our hands, we walked towards the dining table, got ourselves settled, and started having dinner, obviously narrating our little picnic adventure - though conveniently leaving out Di's injury part.

After dinner, I retreated straight to my room, a book in my hand, the words blurring pleasantly, as sleep pressed down on my eyes.

£ Next Morning

I was sleeping peacefully until someone poured an entire jug of water on me. I woke up with a shock, gasping.

I shot up, spluttering. "What the-!"

I looked at the person who dared disturb my sacred sleep, and of course, there was no surprise - it was none other than my loving Kriya Di. She loves doing this.

She wiggled her eyebrows. "Rise and shine, baby monkey."

She was grinning evilly, clearly proud of herself for spoiling my beauty sleep. Oh God, someone please tell her she looks like a 100-year-old witch when she laughs like that. I grabbed the pillow and threw it on her face before running into the washroom, giggling.

After freshening up, I walked downstairs, towards the dining table. And there she was - my permanent headache - eyeing me like, she wanted to eat me instead of breakfast. I royally ignored her and dug into my food.
